| rpgaddict's Full Review: Victor Ultimate Flea Trap |
This is my first review on a pet related product. Hopefully everything goes well with this review. My apartment was having serious flea problems. The fleas declared war on me and my cat and we needed to fight back. This was I would say June or July. Up till that point I had considered buying an electronic flea trap but had never done so. The fleas were becoming an absolute menace, I hated having a flea or two bite me while sitting down and eating or watching T.V. Flea bites are hard and sometimes would leave small red itchy lumps. Wearing sandals became a pain in the neck, even ankle high socks.
With all this in my mind I paid a visit to the local pet shop. Yes Victor Flea Trap you are now a part of my anti flea combat team. Previously Bug Bombs were attempted bug bombs worked well for a while but the fleas always would return. Baths seemed only a temporary solution as well. Vacuuming helped but all the same couldn’t completely rid fleas. I’ve read that female fleas can lie over five- hundred eggs in their lifetime. Maybe this is why the pests kept returning. Here’s another statement about fleas they are said to jump up to one hundred-fifty times their own length.
One of the reasons I waited a while to purchase the electronic flea trap was to give the bug bombs a chance. The Victor Flea Trap is circular in shape and allows 360 degree access; it comes with two circular sheets of sticky paper. Each sticky glue pad has a clear sheet which must be peeled off, and placed onto the base portion in order to trap the fleas. There is also a canopy top that is attached to the base by pressing it firmly onto the base. A wire and a 7 watt 240 volt bulb are also included. I recommend placing the wire/bulb holder into the canopy and screwing in the bulb before attaching the canopy and base.
The warmth of the light attracts the fleas that unknowingly leap to their doom. The light seems to melt the glue a little adding to the sticky factor. Many fleas try to escape but for the most part it’s all in vain. The box claims to have a ninety-three percent catch rate. I would not be surprised if this statement is true. Only once in a blue moon do I see a flea escape. If the flea is so fortunate and I’m around I’ll try to capture the pest and put him right back in the death chamber. That or I’ll just flush the flea down the toilet.
Victor’s Flea Trap catches and kills I’d say between one-hundred to two-hundred fleas a month. In the summer months the device seems to catch the most fleas. Though it hasn’t completely stopped fleas I am content. One drawback though is that the Glue pad instructions say to change once a month or when full. Yet often two to three and a half weeks later the pad stops catching fleas. The fleas seem to stick to mostly one side of the glue pad as well. If the fleas would stick to both sides equally I feel more fleas would be caught. Despite some flaws overall I like this product, and have occasionally considered buying a second Flea Trap to give the fleas even more problems.
When using this product don’t become frustrated if no fleas are caught within the first few hours. Believe me the fleas will leap to their doom. Also you may find that fleas will not stop biting you overnight but over the course of let’s say one to three weeks. When I began using the device the flea bites began to lessen until no more occurred. Though this product is not the end all to flea infestation, Victors Flea trap has helped significantly. Probably the best way to fight fleas with anti flea products is to use more than just a flea collar and trap. Use medicines like Front line as well. I am also using a flea powder along with a collar and trap. Bug bomb the living quarters occasionally. In short use what’s in your budget, but don’t count out Victor’s Ultimate Flea Trap.
Here are some statements about the product and fleas taken from the box. Not copied word for word however. 1. Victor’s the Ultimate Flea Trap attracts fleas from thirty feet away, and lures them out of carpet and upholstery.
2. The box recommends one trap per room where fleas are present.
3. This trap can be used all year round as an early flea detection device.
4. Flea larvae live in dark places and eat flea dirt.
5. Flea larvae molt twice before spinning a cocoon where their bodies pupate.
6. Victor’s Ultimate Flea Trap simulates the heat of a warm blooded host thus attracting the pests.
