Pros: Smells pretty nice, decent packaging
Cons: Just not something I want to smell like
I have never understood the popularity of Victoria's Secret Lovespell; I got used to the scent after receiving enough lotions as free gifts that I felt compelled to use them, but it nearly gagged me at first. I thought surely they must make a scent I would like, and I eventually found Amber Romance, which is much better.
According to the packaging, the scent of Amber Romance is supposed to be from Black Cherry, Creme Anglaise and Sandalwood. I'm not totally sure what those are supposed to smell like, although I do think I detect some black cherry in the scent, and something that smells like cream. The scent is hard to describe. It's sweet, but it's a lot less sugary than the other Secret Garden scents.
I like the scent of Amber Romance, but not enough to really want to smell like it all day. I almost never use body mists; I prefer perfume, and I don't like to smell like I'm trying to attract a swarm of bees.
I got a this body mist as part of a gift set (I wanted the lotion and shower gel) and wasn't really sure what to do with it. I did try wearing it a few days, and I guess it smelled OK on me, but it just wasn't happening. (For those wondering how long it lasts, one good squirt sticks around for a few hours, and probably much longer if you douse yourself with it.)
So I did what I always do with sprays that I like but don't like on me: I started using it to spray around the house. In that usage, it smells very pleasant, and the scent lingers nicely. And, at least in this form of usage, it seems to last forever.
The spray comes in a bottle with a gold lid, and the liquid is tinted a pretty golden yellow color. (Although they change the packaging frequently, so it may not look like that any longer.) I often find Victoria's Secret products are poorly packaged, but I have had no such problem with this body splash -- the sprayer is still working perfectly about a third of the way through the bottle.
Would I buy this spray again? Well, no, I'm not paying $8 for what a $1 can of Glade will do. But if you're a body mist fan and are looking for a good scent that's not obnoxiously sugary, then this might be a good choice for you. It's certainly better than most of those Secret Garden scents Victoria's Secret puts out.
Price and availability: A 250 mL bottle costs $9 at Victoria's Secret or victoriassecret.com. You can get the products much cheaper if you buy several at a time, usually 3 for $24 or 5 for $30, but I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you already know you like some of the products.
