Pros:It is cheap!
Cons:Quality is lacking. The heavenly almond scent is gone.
The Bottom Line: My final word on this is the best shampoo for color treated hair is down the next aisle.
I have a friend who is absolutely fantastic looking for his age. He lies to everyone and tries to disguise his age. Of course he tells everyone he is ten years younger than his actual age. He even dyes his hair. His wife has a theory that he should tell everyone he is really eighty years old. This was people will stop and say,” you know you look pretty damn good for eighty.” Everyone else I know is going to try to disguise getting older as long as possible and that means a dye job. Once you dye you hair the texture changes, and usually for the worse. Unfortunately. I have had my share of little gray hairs popping out, so the solution was dying my hair.

I try to keep my long hair looking youthful and soft. The hair in the photo was set and is very long in reality. I often use the boutique type shampoo. The brands that start at 10 dollars a bottle. The reason? My hairdresser has admonished me that she can tell the difference in split ends, and overall condition. The trouble is I found myself needing a bottle of shampoo and fast. I ran to my closest drugstore and picked up a bottle of shampoo. I just did not have time to go to my favorite beauty boutique. I settled for Vidal Sassoon color secure hair wash. Vidal Sassoon owns some of the most chic salons in New York and London and his hair care products were always very nicely packaged and effective.
I used to adore the old Vidal Sassoon shampoo. It had a most wonderful and strong scented almond smell, which permeated the hair shaft. I bought this new product expecting the same. I have been disappointed and will return to the more expensive brands. Let me expound.
First off, I do not care for the smell of this hair shampoo. It is a plain, fruity type smell and no longer the almond scent I had come to love. The texture is a white, medium weight creamy shampoo. The lathering is average too. No lush, sudsy bubbles.
Secondly. I do not care for the packaging. I do not like the pump dispenser on this bottle. I find myself juggling the bottle with one hand while trying to desperately pump out the proper quantity with the other. It makes for a very clumsy application. I suppose if you have a decent sized shelf in your tub the bottle would be adequate, but otherwise I prefer the standard open top dispenser bottle.
Thirdly, although the product only costs 6 dollars for an 8.5 oz bottle I found I have to use an enormous quantity to lather up my hair. In reality, with the extra quantity used, you save nothing. In fact, you wind up spending more. The more expensive brands usually require very little product to accomplish the task at hand, while this new shampoo requires several squirts of shampoo to do the proper job. I would admonish you that if you have long hair to stick to the more expensive brands based on the quantity of shampoo needed to fully clean your hair.
Fourth- the most important reason of all is the color retention is not there, by using this shampoo. I found I had significant fading of the color and the tones starting to look quite brassy. I do not find this in the more expensive brands. Since this is specifically for color treated d hair- I find this unacceptable. I also found that the hair was extremely frizzy and not smooth looking after this shampoo application.
In conclusion, I found the product did not live up to the Vidal Sassoon reputation. Although there is something to be said for the inexpensive price coupled with the ease of purchasing this product at any local drugstore or beauty supply shop, I found the negatives outweighed the benefit and can not endorse this product for color treated hair.
I need a shampoo that will keep my hair young looking and sexy…even if I am pushing eighty. LOL
