Pros: Powerful, secure grip, GFI plug, quiet enough that you can hear people talk
Cons: You can hear crying too
The Bottom Line: This blow dryer has lasted 4 years through countless wet heads and sheetrock projects. That should speak for itself.

| Dr_Steph's Full Review: Vidal Sassoon 1875 Watt Quiet Hair Styler Vs750 |
NOTE: I wrote this review several years ago and posted it under "Hair Products." Now that the correct category has been added (thanks, KIMINER!), I'm moving it to the proper place. By the way, I still own this hair dryer and it still works perfectly. The only thing that has changed from this review is that the kids have gotten older. :) They still interrupt me when I'm trying to dry my hair.
My friends would snicker and guffaw if they knew that I was writing an epinion about a hair care product. After all, I'm not really known for my styled hair or attention to feminine details in general. I must be missing some girlie gene somewhere. However, I'm so tickled with my purchase that I'll endure their laughter.
I bought the Vidal Sassoon Quiet Styler 1875 hair dryer in Feb. 2000 when my old blow dryer stopped working. I don't really style my hair but I do wash it every morning and if I let it dry on its own, I get the most annoying upward "flip" on my left side. Hence, the search for a new flip controller began.
I was attracted to Vidal Sassoon Quiet Styler 1875 because of the "quiet"; in the name. I was sick of the ear-splitting roar/screech of previous blow dryers I had owned. I was not disappointed. This dryer is relatively quiet, at least by blow dryer standards. It falls somewhere between loud enough to wake a sleeping baby but not loud enough to wake a sleeping preschooler.
The package states that the Vidal Sassoon Quiet Styler 1875 is quiet enough to allow you to have a conversation while using it. That's true, though I'm not completely sure that is a good thing.
Take this morning for example: after racing around making breakfast for kids, changing diapers, emptying potty chairs, and wiping up baby barf, I retreat to the bathroom to take a shower. As I'm drying my hair, my 4 yr. old comes up to me and asks
"Which one would win, Mama - Pikachu or Mewtwo?"
"I don't know."
"Well, guess!!!"
"OK, Pikachu."
"WRONG! Mewtwo would win because
(blah, blah, blah
)."
Next, my 2 yr. old comes, begging me for some candy.
"No candy in the morning, honey."
"WHAAAAAAA!!!!!"
You see, before I had this quiet blow dryer I could always just shrug my shoulders as my kids talked to me because I couldn't hear them. Eventually they would go find their father and ask him instead. Now I can hear the crying as well as the conversation. Sigh
OK, enough about the kids. I'll tell you a little about this hair dryer. The Vidal Sassoon Quiet Styler 1875 is 1875 watts which makes it a pretty powerful little appliance. My husband commented that it uses more electricity than our space heater and could probably heat a room faster! Sure dries my thick, flippy hair fast. Because of the wattage, you don't want to use anything else on the same circuit except maybe a light bulb or you risk tripping the circuit breaker.
This is a medium-sized maroon colored dryer (might come in other colors, too, but this is the one I liked best). The Vidal Sassoon Quiet Styler 1875 is not only quiet but it has a nice feel to it. It has a black rubber grip that rests against the palm of your hand and gives it a secure, comfortable feel. The dryer has three levels: high, medium, and low. It also has a blue button you can hold down for a blast of cool air. I've rarely used this feature though I suppose that people who actually know what they are doing regarding hair styling would find this an attractive feature.
The cord is fairly heavy duty and straight, not the curly phone cord style that always gets twisted up. The safety GFI plug is also heavy duty and comes with reset and test buttons on it.
The directions say to test before each use by first pressing the reset button and then pressing the test button (the reset button should pop up). Then you need to push the reset button again to use the dryer. This is all to ensure that the GFI is working correctly and can protect you from being inadvertently electrocuted when using this dryer.
I admit, I've never followed these guidelines. I just plug it in, turn it on, dry my hair, unplug it, and put it away. I've survived so far (knock on wood).
Not only is this a terrific product for drying hair, but my fix-it husband has found all sorts of other handy-dandy uses for it. It works great for thawing frozen pipes in the winter, drying spots of sheetrock mud, and drying smelly damp tennis shoes! Definitely a keeper. :)
