| Mickey21's Full Review: ViewSonic GS771 CRT Monitor |
I have been using the Viewsonic Graphics Series 771 17" monitor for almost a year now. It has proved to be a monitor of great quality. Not to mention the great price. I love Viewsonic monitors for this reason. They have outstanding quality for the price you pay.
Size : This monitor has the special feature of being smaller than most monitors in it's class. A full 3" shorter than most comparable models. This gives it a footprint comparable to 14" and 15" monitors saving vital desk space. The monitor measures 15.5" (front width) 16.5" (front height including base) 16.25" (side depth). Viewing area is 11" (width) 9.75" (height) 16" (diagonal).
Image Quality : 0.23mm Horizontal dot pitch* and 0.27mm Diagonal dot pitch*. INVAR** shadow mask. Maximum resolution is 1280 x 1024 @ 66Hz non-interlaced. Other available maximum resolutions are 1024x 768 @ 87Hz and 800 x 600 @ 110Hz. PowerMac compatible up to 1152 x 870 @ 70Hz. Note - try not to use 60Hz in the US. 60Hz matches the electrical frequency and will in most cases produce more flicker.
User Control Adjustments : Adjustments for screen calibration include ; contrast, brightness, horizontal/vertical position and size, pincushion, degauss, hooking, pin-balance, trapezoid, Viewmatch color, parallelogram, tilt, ViewMeter, language select, On-Screen Display position, video input level, horizontal/vertical moire, and recall.
Other details :
Weight : 35.6 lbs (16.2Kg)
Warranty : 3 Year limited warranty on CRT tube, parts and labor. 48 hour Express Exchange Service option available.
Power : 95W typical consumption
Comes in computer white only.
* dot pitch - the distance between like colored dots in the shadow mask of a monitor (i.e. green dot to the next closest green dot). Tv's and such also use this measurement. Smaller measurements are considered better as a rule. Technically this isn't always true due to the resolution you may be comfortable with.
** INVAR shadow mask - Iron Nickel and VARious metals make up the shadow mask which is the grid that lays out and defines where the cathode laser beams will land. Although the laser already has an area set out that each color will follow, the grid (much like an old child's toy, LITE BRITE) makes sure that the light that passes through the grid looks uniform and round.
