My weeds need Viagra since we used Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed!

The joys of being a homeowner are never ending. But along with those joys come the jobs that aren’t so joyful. One of those jobs is yardwork. Now, I really don’t mind yardwork. Taking care of the lawn, planting flowers and vegetables, those are tasks that I look forward to. My husband doesn’t feel quite the same way I do about the lawn, and when spring came along this year he was less pleased about it than usual. We purchased our house last July and we knew then that our grass was going to need some serious help if it was ever going to look green, lush, and weed free. Circumstances prevented us from “weed and feeding” our lawn last year, and we never did get around to “winterizing” it either. That meant that this spring the lawn was looking even worse than it did last year. Oh, my husband was not at all pleased, and then when the dandelions and other assorted weeds started popping up in our pathetically thin grass, well, my husband blew a gasket! Then he went to Home Depot and bought some Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed.
What is it? What does it claim?
Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed is a turf fertilizer with weed control. Vigoro claims that this product controls over 200 types of lawn weeds, and that it will green your lawn in 24 hours. The particles in the bag have been coated with two liquid weed control products. These particles stimulate growth, which causes the weeds to outgrow their roots. The fertilizer is 28-3-3. Fertilizers are made up of three main ingredients. Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. The numbers 28-3-3 mean 28% Nitrogen, 3% Phosphorus, and 3% Potassium. Nitrogen promotes the green growth of your grass, Phosphorus promotes root formation, and Potassium strengthens the grass and makes it more resistant to drought and disease. Having a healthy lawn is important for many reasons including increased oxygen production, healthier soil and less weed and insects. A healthy lawn increases the cooling of the surrounding area, and reduces noise pollution. Not only that, but it looks great!
Application
Only actively growing weeds can be controlled by this product (during May, June and September). Vigoro recommends that you use a weed and feed product twice a year. Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed will not affect weeds that sprout from seed after application, not will it control weeds that are treated during cool, early spring weather. This product needs to be applied when the temperature is 15C or higher, and no one should enter the treated area until after the dust has settled. This includes pets. This product is applied with a broadcast spread, not by hand. It is applied in two passes using a half rate of application per pass, and the passes are at right angles to each other. (You can check the vigoro website for spreader settings if you’re unsure.) Don’t spread just prior to rainfall, don’t apply to newly seeded lawns until after its been mowed at least three times, and don’t seed treated areas for at least six weeks after use. Sweep any fertilizer off driveways and sidewalks. Of course it is necessary to follow the standard precautions when using this product. Long sleeve shirt, long pants, etc. Wash hands thoroughly after use, apply on calm days, avoid breathing dust, etc.
Results
We were fortunate that the rain held off until today. Three days after using Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed my lawn is looking greener. My grass actually looks thicker, and those yellow polka dots are now shrinking down to nothing! Yes, the dandelions are limp, they’re sagging, they’re in serious need of Viagra! Of course, that’s exactly the results I hoped for, and now when we mow the lawn (after it stops raining of course!) it will be green, dandelion free, and beautiful! I cannot attest to the veracity of Vigoro’s claim that this product controls over 200 types of lawn weeds, but it did kill all the weeds we had in our lawn, dandelions, plaintain and clover to name a few. We’ve noticed the difference that quickly, and so have the neighbours. Now they’re asking what we used and where to get it! Thanks to Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed & Feed our lawn is starting to look healthy!
