Pros: Brings barren earth to life! Makes the ground rich! Little room for weeds to grow!
Cons: I wish that I had known about this product before!
The Bottom Line: I don't know of anything else for under $30 that can accomplish what the Vigoro can. You could just hire an expensive landscaper. But then again...I'm a poor man.

| sam-pro's Full Review: Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed and Feed 28-3-3 |
I'm going to keep this review as short and sweet as possible without sacrificing the pertinent information. I'm not a lawn king by any stretch of one's imagination and I definitely do not possess a green thumb. I am also not one who frequents this section of EPINIONS with reviews as I confine myself to writing about classic audio gear in general.
Now to make a long story short...when we first moved into our current home six years ago, I noticed that our 900 square foot backyard was one hippie jungle chock full of weed {no...not that kind!}. These weeds were humongous to say the least and after five seasons of Ortho weed killing everything in sight...it was finally time to consider fertilizing and re-seeding the doggone mess.
I started planting some Kentucky Blue Grass seed but not much happened. I was told that the shade was just too much as little sun creeps into our rear area. Then about two months ago my neighbor offered me his extra bag of this Vigoro Ultra Turf Weed And Feed that he swore by along with a special hand held spreader/feeder with crank that easily fed our small property efficiently in just minutes.
It must be noted that we are actually enjoying a full Spring this year in the Northeast as opposed to our usual leap from cool dry weather right into hot and humid stuff. It also must be noted that I simply set our garden hose nozzle to "Mist" and then "Flat" in order to mat the granules down after clawing up some earth with a $20 claw-like Garden Hound Dog Aerator.
I cannot confirm Vigoro's claim of a noticeable reaction within 72 hours but definitely within two weeks I noticed a dramatic difference in our barren yard and grass started to sprout as the weather warmed up. It also must be noted that at that time I decided to lightly re-rake our small patch of land and plant some Pennington Select grass seed {a separate review forthcoming} while again lightly misting our new lawn.
Within another two weeks along with some healthy rainfall some pretty amazing things occurred. Firstly...there are no appreciable weeds growing save for one small four-leaf clover along side of the garage. Secondly...our rear lawn actually now looks like a lawn although admittedly...it is not full-grown yet. But it is so nice to see that healthy-looking green! This is something that we have not ever witnessed in the time we've been here.
The Vigoro W&F/Pennington Select combo is a sure winner in my book! So much so that I now plan to soley use these two products while repeating the process for my yard in the future.
If you only knew how hard it was to even get a decent lawn started before discovering the Vigoro! It's ironic too as our Landlord/Lady remarked at her recent inspection how it would be nice if we could plant some seed in the back. I didn't want to say anything at the time because I really had my doubts due to previous failed attempts at something that even remotely resembled a lawn...but little did she know that as she spoke her words over the phone that the ground had taken on a sudden miraculous green look.
I'm sold on the Vigoro...it's simply the best product of its kind. Yes...you can find both items mentioned at your local Home Depot at a reasonable cost...under $40 for both bags. Oh...by the way...thanks, neighbor!...P2
