jican's Full Review: Viking Professional (2-Slot) 2-Slice Toaster
I bought this Viking two slot toaster to join my other Viking appliance on my kitchen counter. My old toaster began to leave un-toasted areas on one side of of the bread. I replaced the old one, with a Viking.
THE TOASTER
This toaster design follows the softened edges of my stand mixer. It measures 8¾ x 8¼ x 8½ and weighs 10.3 pounds on my bathroom scale. It has a brushed stainless steel face, top, rear and vented sides. The sides are capped with a plastic cover in your choice black, cobalt blue, bright red, stainless gray and white. I purchased the stainless gray.
This is a simple two slice toaster, with a dial gauging from warm, then numbered 1-6 with no stops or clicks in between the number markers. The lever gets depressed to start the toasting process. Once the toaster is finished, the toast pops up and this same lever has an extra lift to retrieve your toast easily.
The cord measures 39 inches and has a two prong plug. There is no self storage for the cord. The large slots measure 5¼ x 1¨û inches and will accommodate large slices of toast and even fresh bagels.
USAGE
I tend to use wide wheat bread and this toaster accommodates this. No pale areas and the toast is actually warm. I do toast bread, bagels, home-made Belgian waffles, English Muffins, and have had no trouble retrieving them with the extra lift feature.
My son and I have different preferences as to how toasted we like our bread. He likes his very light and I like mine medium. The white markers against the black background knobs are very visible and remind me to make an adjustment.
The large crumb tray measures 6 x 5½ inches, is made entire of a highly polished stainless steel, and has a large handle. The tray slides out and the crumbs dust off easily. This crumb tray should be routinely cleaned, depending upon how much you use your toaster.
BOTTOM LINE
This toaster is used occasionally, perhaps once every 2 weeks or so and after a short period of usage time, the lever that you depress to hold the bread down ceased to function. I returned it to Viking and was informed it would cost $29.95 for shipping and repair. So much for customer service and their warranty. I suggest you look elsewhere for a toaster.
