Pros:I liked the fragrance of this Village Natural Shower Gel
Cons:I don't know if it will really help you sleep!
The Bottom Line: Village Naturals Restless Nights claims to help sleep. I doubt that, but it is a nice shower gel with a pleasant fragrance.
I was recently given some shower gels by Village Naturals by my girlfriend. I immediately thanked her knowing that I now had new beauty and wellness products to review. Oh, and to use in the shower of course. Today's review is on Village Naturals Restless Nights Shower Gel. (This used to be called Sleep Therapy, but the name was changed for marketing)

Value / Ingredients / boring stuff to know
I got this in a 12.6 oz clear plastic bottle. The cap flips open so you can squeeze out what you want. The bottle is shaped more like a medicine bottle or a little square whiskey bottle than a body wash bottle. It is 94.57% naturually derived, whatever that means. It's purple in color. The ingredients are a bunch of stuff I can't pronounce, but the primary scent ingredients are lavender, passion flower and chamomile. I don't know what it cost, it was a gift.
This review is on the Village Naturals Restless Nights Shower Gel. I decided to try this with a shower before going to bed. Yes, it pours out easily, it suds up very well and it lathers over my body and makes me clean. (As I warned in the previous review, don't picture me in the shower, picture someone more attractive than me like Brad Pitt or Angelinie Jolie or maybe both of them together! Thank you). It didn't dry or irritate my skin and I felt clean when I got out of the shower.
However, the key question is... what's the deal with promoting sleep? Does it really?
The Science of Smell
Aromatherapy is a real proven science. Certain scents bring on certain reactions. Ever been to the fair grounds and smelled peppers and onions? Yup, like Pavlov's dogs we all get hungry. AXE bath products would have you believe that their scent drives women into various states of passion (sadly, I have found that they do not work as advertised). French Vanilla always soothes and relaxes me. Citrus smells awaken me.
Simply put, Village Naturals has captalized on the idea that certain scents promote certain feelings. Restless Nights uses the scent of lavender, passion flower and chamomile to promote sleep. I found that I liked the smell, although it didn't make me feel particularly tired. I guess it smells like the flowers named, I am not familiar with what they smell like, and this time I am at a loss to describe the fragrance except that it is a light floraly smell.
My problem with Village Naturals is that the scent is gone almost the moment you step over the sill of your bathtub to grab your towel. It is not a lasting fragrance.
Essential Oils of Lavender, Chamomile, and Passion Flower will help you sleep your worries away after a calm and relaxing shower.
Chamomile eases and soothes
passionflower calms and comforts
Lavender relaxes and restores.
Yes, it sounds like hopeful marketing to me too.
I think taking a shower in and of itself (or a hot bath if you have the time) at night, puts you in the mood for sleep (unless someone used up all the hot water on you). Did the slight scent of all these flowers? No more really than the hot water or the smells of any other bath product that I like. I find that the scent of french vanilla is far more relaxing than lavender, passion flower and chamomile. However, I did like the fragrance of this particular Village Naturals product.
If you want to fall asleep easier, I don't think the sort of shower gel you use is really going to help any. A hot shower before bed does help, but so does keeping away from Facebook and listening to soft mellow jazz music works a lot better
This shower gel was nice, but I think that the sleep angle is just marketing. I got clean, and it smells nice though. I did sleep well.
I still give it 3 stars, because it does make my skin feel good, and the smell does sort of relax me. If you enjoy the smell of lavender, passion flowers or chamomile, you may like this shower gel too.
