| adamsjill's Full Review: Vincent Longo Lip Stain Lipstick Belle Etoile |
I have long been searching high and low for the perfect Lip-Stain. Perfect would be one that gives my lips long lasting, non-blotchy, non-splotchy, non-drying wine dipped colour. My search recently brought me to makeupalley.com, where I was sent to Sephora in search for the highest rated Lip-Stain, Vincent Longo Lip Stain Lipstick in Belle Etoile, which is as close to perfection as I have gotten in my search thus far.
More about Vincent Longo Lip Stain Lipstick
This is a lip-stain type lip-stick, meaning it is not a traditional liquid lip-stain that soaks into lips, but rather a lip-stick with some of the properties of a lip satin, such as sheer long lasting colour. The product comes in a black box that lists ingredients, and the case is a simple black shiny plastic lipstick case with the words "Vincent Longo" and the logo on the lid in blue. The lipstick itself is of average size, and there is .12oz of product in the stick. The case is square and sleek, and would easily fit in any cosmetic bag or evening bag.
Sephora.com says about this line: Lipstain Lipstick SPF 15 stays true to the look and feel of Vincent Longo's award-winning, original formula. The ultra silky, sheer color, high gloss formula delicately tints the lips as aloe vera and vitamin E continuously moisturize. The look is natural and perfect for women of all ages.
Ingredients (of the Belle Etoile Shade), from Beauty.come are: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Isostearyl Palmitate, Beeswax, Glyceryl Triacetyl Ricinoleate, Lanolin Oil, Ozokerite, Isopropyl Palmitate, Isopropyl Myristate, Squalane, Copericia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylic/capric Triglycer, Lanolin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Flavor, Petrolatum, Cetyl Acetate, Acetylated Lanolin, Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Ceramide 3, Propylparaben, Polybutene, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholesterol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica, Yellow 5 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Red 28 Lake, Yellow 6 Lake, Red 6 Lake, Red 33 Lake, Carmine, Blue 1 Lake.
Active ingredients (I assume this is the SPF 15) are: Octinoxate 6%, Benzophenone 3 2.00%
The Lip-Stick comes in 14 shades that seem to encompass browns, nudes, pinks, and reds. I got the Belle Etoile as the deep red colour was the closest to the wine stain I was seeking.
This Lip-Stick is available at Sephora.com and beauty.com for $23.00USD, as well as occassionally on ebay and likely other online retailers. I found it at Sephora Brick and Mortar in Canada for $32.00USD.
My experience with Vincent Longo Lip Stain Lipstick in Belle Etoile
As soon as I tried it on at Sephora, I was in love. My lips looked like they had a sheer, yet solid an even, coat of wine on them. The texture of this lipstick is very smooth and light-not at all sticky or thick and heavy. It feels like your lips have been slicked with very light oil, so your lips are smooth and moist but not wet, globby or heavy. There is a slightly fruity smell I like, but the smell is not strong and you cannot smell it on your lips. No noticeable taste.
I find this Lip-stick wears off faster than a traditional, Lip-stain (I can get maybe 2 hours out of it), But since it looks and feels so great, I don't mind. Also, Because it is sheer and in a lip-stick applicator that is easy to apply, it is quick and easy to touch up with a quick mirror free swipe...the liquid stains are a pain to touch up as they go on so uneven, and need to dry. Also, this lip-stick wears off quite evenly, with no ugly "ring around the lips", which I appreciate as I hate that!!!
Belle Etoile is a very versatile colour, a lovely deep red colour that when applied with a light hand gives my lips a lovely wine stained tint, and with a heavier application looks dramatic and sexy.
I find this lip-stick also works great over a traditional Lip-Stain, as it gives the stain some moisture and depth and evens out the colour, while the stain below keep my lips looking dark for a longer time.
Although I wish Vincent Longo Lip Stain Lipstick in Belle Etoile was a little longer lasting, I am very pleased with the colour, texture and wear of this product, and expect it to be a cosmetic bag staple, in spite of the high price. This lip-stick has caused no irritation or drying whatsoever.
