Vintage Court - Just Okay

Written: Jun 26 '04
Pros:Location, price
Cons:Dirty duvet, street noise, bad odor.
The Bottom Line: If you just need a place to sleep and you get a bargain it could be ok.

Don't go out of your way for this one. We spent our first 2 nights in San Francisco at the Vintage Court, and it was nothing special.

We were arriving late at the hotel, and had a third person staying the room for our first night. I called earlier in the day to have a roll-away placed in the room so we wouldn't have to wait after we arrived. Unfortunately the message never was passed down because when we arrived this had not been done, and the front desk told us that all the queen rooms (what we had reserved) were too small for a roll-away. Luckily, they were able to move us into a corner room with a king sized bed.

Our room was large, but right over the front of the hotel, so there was a lot of street noise. Our second night there we used earplugs and we were able to sleep much better. The hallways had a bad odor - like dirty diaper, but the smell didn't carry into our room. The room was decorated nicely, but the bathroom wasn't sparkling, and the duvet was stained...really gross. The sheets were fresh and clean. The bed was super-firm.

There was a continental breakfast each morning with sad pastries that definitely weren't worth the calories, and dishwater coffee. With so many good options in the city, you're better off going out, and the breakfast is so unsatisfying if you do eat a muffin or danish from the bar, you'll probably still end up eating out!

The location of this hotel is excellent - right near Chinatown, Union Sq, and public transportation.

All in all, this hotel is in need of a good cleaning and some updating. Until then, don't bother. We spent our second 2 nights at the Hotel Triton, which was a huge improvement.
