onequest's Full Review: James Patterson - Violets Are Blue
This is the second James Patterson book that I've read. The first one, Cradle and All, accounted the phenomena of sacred virgin births and the role of the Devil's Advocate in the Catholic church. It was so well written that I had to give Violets are Blue a chance. I was not disappointed.
Violets are Blue chronicles the world of 'real vampires.' Patterson takes the reader on a tour of coastal California, Washington DC, North Carolina, and Louisiana. By the middle of the book, I was starting to wonder if he was writing from first hand experience.
I don't want to give the plot away, but if you enjoy reading Ann Rice or watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you will sink your teeth in to this book. I actually had nightmares after reading it! It is gruesome in places, but if you can get past the graphic details, there is a strong storyline and excellent flow throughout the book.
As a side note, today (July 4th, 2002) in the New York Post, Steve Long wrote about University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texas. Apparently, a couple of employees tasked with chopping up cadavers and sending the body parts to different universities have been selling the parts on the open market. Hmmm. Could there be some truth to Patterson's book after all?
