I first saw Visiball Glasses advertised on the internet a few years ago, and gadget man that I am, I bought a pair online for around $40 and anxiously awaited the arrival of my order. You see, what the maker of these glasses claimed was that you could don a pair and instantly find your lost golf ball. When you spend as much time in the rough and woods as I do, I needed some serious help in finding my ball, so I was willing to give the Visiball Glasses a try.
Visiball Glasses ARE NOT sunglasses, and the manufacturer goes to great pains to make this clear. They do look like a pair of wraparound sunglasses, but the shocking blue lenses have been specially treated to filter the light components that allow us to see grass and other foliage, while at the same time magnifying the white color of the golf ball. This technology is supposed to make a golf ball that's tangled up in the rough or any other green area stand out and be located easily. I really couldn't wait to get the the golf course after I received these glasses to see how these glasses performed. This is what I learned.
When I put on a pair of Visiball Glasses what I saw immediately looked almost surreal. All that lush green bermuda rough looked brown and dead and green leaves and weeds looked the same way. The sky and most of the rest of the landscape took on an almost otherworldly yellowish tint. I started salivating and immediately began anxiously anticipating losing my first ball, which I did in relatively short order in the tall thick rough. I slapped on the Visiball Glasses and began prospecting in the general area where my ball was and located it almost instantly, because the golf ball was an almost startlingly white object that stood out clearly in the rough. The technology of these glasses obviously creates a vast contrast in the colors green and white, exaggerating the light color to make the ball stand out like a sore thumb.
These glasses really work--the rough at my local course is so tall and thick that you sometimes can't find a ball unless you step on it, and I've found many balls that I would have ordinarily have lost had I not had these glasses. They are equally effective in the woods, simply because the ball really sort of shines when it's caught up in a lot of vegetation. In fact, when play is slow, a buddy of mine (who's a bit spryer than me) gets down in a ditch that swallows a lot of balls and with the help of these glasses I direct him to lost balls that we wouldn't ordinarily find, sometimes yielding a veritable treasure trove of Pro Vs, Callaways and Nikes.
Don't get me wrong--these are not X-ray glasses. If that ball is covered up, you won't find it unless you get lucky, but if there's the slightest bit of white visible, the ball will jump out at you.
Visiball Glasses come in a soft carrying case that clips to my golf cart, so they're always handy when I hack a ball off into no man's land.
I recommend these glasses. I know it sounds a bit gimmicky, but they do work, and the money I've saved finding balls has made it a good investment.
