Pros: Reduces redness, soothes, and cools
Cons: None - just be aware of the cautions
I've been using various Visine eye drops for, well, decades I guess. My eyes have a tendency to be bloodshot, even without pulling an all-nighter, or incurring any serious irritation. It's most annoying to have to face the world with red, irritated looking eyes. Thank goodness for Visine Advanced Relief Redness Reliever Eye Drops.
~ Product Description
Visine Advanced Relief is designed to lubricate, soothe, refresh, and cool eyes, as well as provide redness and irritation relief. This particular formula boasts three different eye moisturizers. The packaging suggests using this for the relief of redness of the eye due to minor eye irritations, and for use as a protectant against further irritation or to relieve dryness of the eye.
Visine Advanced Relief Eye Drops come in a clear, plastic bottle, in a 1 fl. oz. size, for around $6.99, or I've seen it also in a smaller .65 fl. oz. size. The bottle comes with a screw-off cap, which when removed reveals the built-in dropper applicator. There is no separate eye-dropper inside the bottle. Just tip the bottle upside down over your eye and allow a drop to fall out of the bottle and into your eye. The directions say to put one or two drops in the affected eye(s) up to four times daily. For children under six, consult a doctor.
There are some important cautions to be aware of:
- Ask a doctor before use if you have narrow angle glaucoma
- Pupil may become enlarged temporarily
- Overuse may cause more eye redness
- Remove contact lenses before using
- Do not use if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy
- Do not touch tip of container to any surface to avoid contamination
- Replace cap after each use
Stop use and check with a doctor if:
- You feel eye pain
- Notice changes in vision
- Redness or irritation of the eye lasts
- Condition worsens or lasts more than 72 hours
If breast feeding or pregnant, ask a health professional before use. As with all medications, keep out of the reach of children.

~ My Experience
I've been using Visine Advanced Relief Redness Reliever Eye Drops for quite a while, with wonderful results. Just a one or two drops in my eyes in the morning will lessen the redness, soothe and cool my eyes. If I'm having an extremely red-eyed morning, Visine will not completely and totally get rid of all the red, but there is an almost immediate and huge improvement.
The bottle with its built-in dropper is easy and simple to use. The drops come out in a measured drop, not too quickly or too slowly. Visine has really got the dropper dispenser perfected. Do be careful not to touch the tip of the dropper on your eye, skin, or anywhere else, to be sure and avoid any contamination. And always replace the cap.
I have never, ever experienced any stinging or burning when using Visine. It always refreshes and moisturizes my eyes. The redness relief is noticeable within seconds. There are some mornings I don't think I could face the world without a couple drops of Visine first! Whenever I travel, you can be sure my trusty Visine is with me to take care of any eye dryness or redness from flying, wind or irritation, and relief from second-hand smoke.
I've noticed that the positive effects from Visine will last usually around 4-5 hours. Redness will tend to return after several hours, as will dryness sometimes. It varies, depending on the condition of my eyes, the environment I'm in, etc.
~ Final Thoughts
Visine Advanced Relief Redness Reliever Eye Drops are a necessity for me. Not every day, but several times a week, I'll use a couple drops in each eye to refresh, relieve any redness, and moisturize. Great for dry eyes, minor irritations and redness. It's a must-have item for me, and I highly recommend it.
