| keeper124's Full Review: Visioneer PrimaScan Colorado 2400u Flatbed Scanner |
The primascan software is not compatible with windows xp.
This was not an issue when I bought the scanner for $30 after rebate years back when my OS was Windows 95. However, that computer frustrated me so much I actually broke the hard drive by striking the computer.
Now I've moved on to a new computer with windows XP (and learned to manage my anger- except when it comes to the way Windows XP handles the software that came with the driver.) Basically there is no update available for the driver, though XP is not a new system any longer. This means if you update your computer, the software driver will bomb out a frustratingly high percentage of the time. (and yes, it also makes image files come up as pagis documents on your directory when they are clearly not). That fact that there is no software update available and nobody seems to know what other drivers might be compatible with this scanner makes it useless.
THe scanner is such an obscure brand name that when you try to run other software to operate it, the software tells you that the scanner is not available or unplugged (this includes the Photosuite software that came with the scanner!!!!). Don't waste your money because eventually you will end up buying a different scanner, not to mention having to re scan your entire photo library since it won't be compatible with the new scanner software you end up choosing.
