| daquan's Full Review: Visioneer PrimaScan Colorado 2400u Flatbed Scanner |
When I had first thought of the idea of getting a scanner, I had a much older computer which was way to slow, and it did not have things like a USB port or even an Ethernet card. I had added a usb card, thinking it would work, but the unit was so old that it would not recognize the hardware!
So when I had a friend build me a new pc, I had then decided to buy a scanner. I found the Visioneer PrimaScan Colorado 2400U on sale at Staples. The unit is connected to my pc through a USB cord. But the Pagis software IS a problem, so I switched over to the MGI Photo Suite 111 SE software which is on the same disk that comes with the machine.
But to make it work properly, you must place the item that you wish to scan on the flatbed upside down. That way, it come on your monitor right side up. This, of course, after having waited for the lamp to warm up.
Resolution seems pretty good, though when copied on paper, the image seems a little bit distorted. You may have to spend some time to do a fine tuning adjustment to get this to near-perfect. Some increments of 100 dpi or so may do the trick.
For the money, you can't go wrong if you want a no-frills no-nonsense simple basic scanner without the bells & whistles!
Overall, size-wise, I could have very well gotten a much smaller unit, but for the price that I paid for this
unit, I really can't complain or argue as long as it does what it says it will do. But it does take up a considerable amount of desktop real estate, so you need to make sure that you can afford the room for it. The lid is removable to allow you to place a large book on the flatbed for scanning.
Some of the features of this unit I found to be very useful & handy, such as:
1. Scan & e-mail photos, documents to your friends & family.
2. With your printer you can neatly substitute a fax machine by scanning an item and e-mailing the copy to anyone who has a valid e-mail address!
3. Scanned items are automatically stored in a folder in your pc until you want to delete them. This keeps you from having to rescan that same item again.
4. No frills, bells or whistles, just plain simple basic operations from your computer.
5. One-year warranty on entire unit.
I'm still getting used to some of the functions of the unit even after owning it for two years, but i like the fact that I can scan & e-mail items to friends & family!
It's a good machine for the money!
