Pros: Works wonders for reducing excessive oil and acne.
Cons: Large doses can cause stomach upset so it should be increased incrementally.
The Bottom Line: If you suffer from acne, you MUST try this. Even in mega doses it is cheaper than all the over the counter and prescription remedies...and works better!

| DrJavaago's Full Review: Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic Acid) |
I was turned on to B5/Pantothenic Acid from reading the other Epinion reviews. I was impressed by how many people raved about how wonderful it was. The reason I was searching was because I have had acne since puberty, and now at 40, it was again seeming to get worse. Not only that but the oil production was incredible.
What hit me about all of these reviews was that they were talking about one of the B vitamins. I had a gastric bypass a few years ago and if I'm not diligent about taking my B supplements I will get deficient. But I never had my doctor say anything about B5. I never thought about it before and I never paid attention to my vitamins to see if I was getting enough. Once I started reading Epinions, I realized that this had to be the answer to my problem. Even still, I'm a born skeptic and wasn't thoroughly convinced...yet willing to give nearly anything a try.
Finding the pantothenic acid was difficult. The only place I could find it was at a health food store, and even then only in the capsules. The biggest problem with me is that I am not a pill taker. I hate taking pills and I always forget. Maybe that is where my skepticism crept in because I knew I was setting myself up for failure in that you are supposed to work up to around 10 grams a day. That is 20 of those capsules. But I thought I'd give it a go anyway.
True to form, I was never able to work up to 20 capsules. In fact, all I was able to ever manage was 2 capsules a day. Yet here is the cool part: It really helped...even at that low a dosage. I suspect if I had a more serious acne problem I would need the 10 grams a day, but considering the malabsorption of B vitamins that occur with gastric bypass patients, perhaps this was all I needed at the moment.
I can tell when I need to start taking it again (like I said, I'm really bad at taking medications), as my skin gets very oily and the cystic acne starts in again. I am excited because today at another health food store I found the powder and am going to start adding it to my drinks. I understand you can add it to anything, which is helpful for me. The powder does not have much of an odor, unlike other B vitamins, so I suspect it won't change the flavor of the drink much or at all. I may modify this review to include that once I try it.
As for the title of my review, I want to know why this isn't the biggest thing on the news right now. Everyone is rushing to get whatever expensive and harsh acne treatment there is out there, but something so simple seems to be the answer for so many people. I would think there might be a company that would try to capitalize on this, but just as well for us that they haven't. I just wish more people knew about this.
