tatejackson's Full Review: Vivitar V3800N 50mm Film Camera
For 93.00 dollars, I didn't expect it to compete with a Nikon F5.
I bought this camera so I could always have an slr with me. You know what they say, you can't take the picture if you don't have a camera. I got my refurbished camera from the Vivitar Ebay store for $93.00 dollars including shipping. I've been having a ball with it. My only regret is that I didn't get the Zoom lens with it.
I wouldn't trade any of my late model Nikons for one of these cameras, but it does take a good picture. Because it is the first fully manual camera I have ever owned, I find myself slowing down and thinking about what I am doing. So far, the results have been good.
This camera's quality is on par with the typical 159.00 list price ( of course 93.00 is better than 159.00). It's light and feels solid. I have no problems with camera shake. It took me about 20 minutes to get used to all the controls. The only complaint I have is that the exposure meter does not stay on when you let go of the shutter button. So you test exposure, adjust, test exposure again... For 93.00, I'll put up with this. Again, I just have to slow down and think about what I am doing.
All in all, its a good value for the money and a fun little camera.
Popular Photography even had a write up on this camera last year. Go check it out. They gave it good marks.
