| newswriter001's Full Review: Vivitar ViviCam 10 Digital Camera |
This was the first and last CHEAP digital camera I will ever buy. Although the picture taking outdoors on a sunny day is pretty decent, forget taking even mediocre-quality photos indoors - even with a TON of lighting.
I thought I was getting a good deal when I bought this snappy-looking little camera last year. I should have saved my $45 and invested it into something a little more worthwhile.
Before I go off on all the downfalls, let me share the one nice thing about this camera... it takes very nice OUTDOOR, SUNNY DAY photos for a $45 camera. Not as nice as a 8 megapixel camera is going to take, but you get my point.
However, that one bonus cannot, by far, make up for all the sour points of this little waste of money.
1) The camera automatically shuts off if it sits idle for 1 minute... and it doesn't save your flash settings. So, then you have to scroll back through the menus and reset 2 different flash settings before you can take another picture.
2) The flash is completely inconsistent. I have taken photos of my daughter standing in the exact same place, and one photo will be dark and the other, all the white areas are blown out. Very strange, but I guess it should be expected for a cheap camera.
3) What you see is NOT what you get. In other words, you look through the viewer, center your subject, and take the picture. WHen the photo is downloaded... Oops, your subject is wayyyy over to the right or left, or the head is chopped off. It looked centered when the picture was taken... so what happened?
4) No LCD preview screen in the back. I should have known better.
5) Delay between photographs. It takes a good 5-8 seconds between flash photographs for this camera to ready itself for the next shot.
6) Software. ArcSoft PhotoImpression should be flushed right down the toilet. When you save the photos from this program, it sets the resolution of the photo at 1 dpi, and an an enormous image size. If you are on dialup and want to email a photo taken with this camera, and you don't bring the photo into another editing program like PhotoDeluxe or PhotoShop, be prepared for an extremely long upload time.
I could go on and on, however, to save from wasting anyone else's time, the bottom line is to just save your money and invest it in something a little more worthwhile.
