| magnavox2000's Full Review: Vizio VL37 37 in. HDTV TV |
Purchased the Vizio LCD HDTV L37 about 2 1/2 years ago. We do not watch TV to much (at average 3 hours a day). The backlight went bad (sound but no image). I wanted to replace the backlight bulb. There is no backlight bulb. There is a backlight panel. To get to it you have to disassemble the TV completely (no exaggeration). The panel is the size of the screen. The panel has multiple rows of lights that look like straws. If backlight bulbs are expensive, I can just imagine backlight panels. I learned alot by opening the unit.
A friend told me that his TV has a backlight bulb. Whenever he needs to replace the bulb, there is a compartment held in place by a few screws. It is accessible without taking the TV apart. The compartment slides out, take the old bulb out, put the new bulb in, and slide compartment back in.
The features mentioned by the friend will be features I will be looking for in the next unit I buy. I do not want to take a TV apart just to change a backlight. In my case, the unit will probably go in the garbage.
I purchased the unit solely on price. I did not know any better, like most people. Spread the word.
