Pros:A basic, simple to use cordless phone with good range and a low price tag.
Cons:No advanced features or special options.
The Bottom Line: For under $20, the CS5111 gives you a basic cordless phone that is easy to setup, easy to use, and works well around the house.
My wife and I had always been "cellular spoiled" - meaning we primarily relied on our cell phones rather than our home phone. But after our first son was born we found ourselves home more often (as in 7 days a week) and started using our home phone more than our cell phones. To make our lives easier we wanted to purchase a basic cordless phone that had a minimum amount of features and wouldn't cost much.

We found what we were looking for at Walmart with the Vtech CS5111 Cordless Phone.
Availability and Pricing
The CS5111 is available at most retail stores such as Walmart and Target. An online search of "VTech CS5111" didn't result in any online stores that sell this phone but walmart.com and target.com both list the phones for sale online. We paid $17.95 for this phone which appears to be the standard price.
Packaging, Setup, and Charging
The phone was packaged securely with a minimal amount of excess plastic and packaging. The only initial setup is to install the battery, which was easy to do. The charging station plugs into the standard outlets and that's it to begin charging and using the phone. All of this was figured out and completed without opening the instruction book.
Basic Use & Range
The CS5111 is a simple to use, low feature cordless phone. The average person would be able to figure out its basic features without opening the manual.
The only place I was able to find an outlet close to a phone cord in my house was in a far corner of my house so I was a little skeptical about the range. I have no problems with static or loosing calls anywhere in my house (approximately 2100 square feet, two floors and a basement) or around my yard (approximately 1/4 acre). Moving around the house, going through doors, or moving to a location with multiple walls between the phone and the base does not seem to effect the quality of the reception.
Advanced Features and Nice Options
As I said, the CS5111 does not have many advanced features or options. It displays the name and number of a caller if your service is equipped with caller ID. The phone also automatically sets the date and time based on caller ID service.
Programming speed dials took a little time, but only because I also put in a person's name into the phone rather than just the number.
All other "standard" features such as call waiting, call forwarding, voice mail, etc that are available through most other phones are available with the CS5111.
