Pros: Works great, introduction to pro level
Cons: Noisy, uses a lot of paint, overspray
The Bottom Line: Great for high volume projects, excellent gun, high cleanup time, overspray (as any high pressure system will have)

| Bradman's Full Review: Wagner Paint Crew Paint Sprayer |
I needed to stain our fence this summer and after getting some quotes I decided that I could do it myself (which I am finding that I am doing more and more). As long as the final cost is less than the quote I am usually not in trouble from the spouse if I have to buy some tools. I was able to justify a pressure washer and this paint sprayer and still come out under the pro quote. Now I dont even try to qualify that I am at the experience/skill level of the pro but I love learning how to do something, and this paint sprayer was a great introduction to high-volume painting.
This sprayer has a large hopper that will hold over a gallon of paint and the gun is the G type that will accept the filters and tips that the commercial guns use.
The highlight of this system is the gun, which is right up with the very expensive versions. It comes with a 0.013 tip and I bought a 0.015 tip at the same time. (The tip diameter controls the amount of material sprayed and the allowable thickness that can be sprayed). This unit is limited to a maximum 0.015 tip (based on pump/motor size). The tips are easily inserted into the gun (after following the correct pressure relief procedure).
I think the money was saved on the pump/motor/hopper unit which just feels cheaper than the commercial units that cost twice/three times as much. The hose and gun seem to be right up on the level with the nicer stuff. Now will this work for my fence project sure it will. Would I use it every day for a personal business no.
I think Wagner has found a great niche, the occasional user that appreciates good quality.
I sprayed three sections of our fence today and burned through a gallon of Behr stain in about 20 minutes. Since I have to pressure wash the sections before I paint them I think I will do six sections at a time and buy 2 gallons of stain. I didnt even have to thin the stain to get a good pattern (I think the 0.015 tip helped).
I had absolutely no problems with any clogging and the cleanup was not an issue. It did take almost as long as the actual spraying but I think that is normal with spraying equipment.
This is not for a small job; I think I can get the cleaning down to about 10 minutes with more experience. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a safety factor with high pressure spraying. There are multiple warnings about injection hazards and you really have to keep your attention focused while you use this equipment. The other type of paint sprayer ,High Volume Low Pressure, equipment doesnt have any instructions for physicians to immediately consider surgical treatment. No more dangerous than a power saw, but still something to keep in mind.
One thing I would highly recommend is a swivel fitting for the gun handle. The high pressure hose is very stiff and the sprayer doesnt come with a swivel fitting. You can get a good one from Gleem paint (http://www.gleempaint.com/index.html) for about $20. They are also a great resource for other paint related stuff.
Compared to my experience with the HVLP equipment this is old school with lots of overspray. It did work well though and I am happy with the result.
