Why I'm Not Liking the Wagner 2600 Sprayer

Pros:unit in general - hose, gun, silence
Cons:did not get an even spray
The Bottom Line: It's average - was below average for me but I have a hard time believe it's THAT bad.
Sprayed some doors last week a lot of doors. Enough to test the effectiveness of my respirator, but thats an entirely different review. The size the job did allow me to justify a purchase (perhaps the biggest reason I take jobs like this) so a new sprayer came home and went through the paces.

The job Im spraying cabinet doors. Approximately 35 doors, pre-sanded, a nice oak looking to be lacquered. All doors are flat panel no crevices or molding to deal with.
The sprayer I purchased, though not meant for someone making their living doing finish work, appeared to be fairly useful. I equated it with a good choice for the furniture maker who treats his (or her) craft as a bit more than a hobby. Literature and packaging indicated this sprayer from Wagner was crafted for an application such as my need.
Set up was relatively self-explanatory, and what couldnt be determined using common sense could be determined using the enclosed instruction manual.
Noise was minimal, the feel of the gun in my hand was admirable, vibration minimal (not the case for a cheaper gun Ive used in the past). While Im on the positive notes, the 20 foot hose was more than adequate because of the work I was doing I had no need to walk around a large piece of furniture but rather could move my work to where I needed it.
Moving to the end of the job, clean up was relatively easy considering the fact that cleaning up after lacquer is never a walk in the park.
Keeping in mind my doors were nicely sanded truly, nicely fits no short cuts taken in prepping these doors. My lacquer flowed well for the first ten doors, after number ten it was downhill. While I cant say the gun clogged, the flow out became erratic at best. The less than even flow was evidenced in the result: Both my lack of sleep because the process took twice as long, and the fact that the doors dried unevenly with sticky spots continuing for more than 24 hours.
Now for the hedge
could I have had an off day? Hard to believe but possible. The other consideration is weather. Unfortunately, weather conditions often affect the results that come from a tool such as this. If its a bit too damp, a bit too humid, all of this can affect even spread and drying times. I do not believe, however, that weather should affect the way lacquer flows out of the sprayer.
In addition, I know of end users who have utilized this unit for latex paint with success. I have not tried the unit to do a great deal of painting, though I ran some paint through to cover a few pieces of MDF after the lacquer incident. Coating and flow was fine better than this wood butcher can do with a roller.
I dont believe my problems with the lacquer were a fluke. For the price I believe one should expect even coverage from lacquer a thinner product than the latex I was using. I like the unit and I want to like the results. I like the silence, I like the feel, I was good with the literature included and the tips. But what can I say, my experience guides me even more. Im going with an average rating because I know of other users who have had better luck than I.
