Purchased at Home Depot for $69.00. I had a set of cast iron patio furniture to paint. I did not want to go through the hassle of buying umpteen million cans of spray paint because I had 6 chairs, large table and glider to do. Thought I would give this small sprayer a shot.
Many reviews here are very negative regarding these smaller Wagner products. My experience was totally different.
First of all let me say that I am NOT A HANDYMAN. My dad used to tell me if a man had a profession....hire him. But, I forged ahead anyway.
Being a not-so-skilled guy, I read the instructions and followed them to a tee. The Home Depot rep was knowledgeable and made excellent suggestions as to paint choice, thinner and cleanup materials.
I prepped the furniture with a wire brush and cleaner. That took about 30 minutes.
I can only guess as to why people had problems with their units, but I have to think that most involved thinning the paint to the proper viscosity. It was a bit of hassle, but sooooo worth it.
I used Rustoleum enamel based paint. I bought a gallon because I didn't know for sure how much it would take and I didn't want to make one of my normal 5 trips back to the hardware store.
The unit worked flawlessly. The spray was even with no drips.
After doing the first two chairs I went to refill the unit, thinking that it must be about dry. (When you tilt the unit during the job the paint on the inside tends to hide how much you still have left). To my surprise, I still had almost half of the original fill.
I did all of the furniture with about a quart of paint, which amazed me. (I am easily amazed).
The results were absolutely incredible. The furniture, which I had thought about discarding looks brand new.
I found myself looking for something else to paint...I was on a roll. My wife, however, thought that a black fence might not make the neighbors very happy so I just resealed the can.
Cleanup was messy...as I had expected. I would suggest getting plenty of mineral spirits and take the time to do it right so that it will work the next time you pull it out.
The entire job took me two hours including prep and cleanup time. I value my time for something, so I think the expense of the unit was well worth it.
