quarternotes's Full Review: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
A rarity it has been to finally find a movie that not only became a chore to watch, but to watch forceably. Walk Hard, The Dewey Cox Story, (starring John C. Reilly as Dewey Cox), is a fictitious slap-stick biography about a man's life and the life he led, from a young lad to an old man. This story leads you through the best and worse times in his life as he becomes a rock star and fights to overcome women, drugs, and his reputation as a rock-n-roll star. With his band at hand, you get to watch the changes in music through the decades as Mr. Cox goes through the peaks of Country, Disco, Rock-n-Roll, and finally, Hip-Hop. Towards the end of his career, he realizes, (sort of), that family is more important than his career.
Walk Hard was primarily made for slap stick humor, but no laughs came from this side of the fence. Perversion, as well as just plain stupidity made this movie the top end of my personal list of worse movies made, not just for this year, or this decade, but EVER made.
To have an open mind is a blessing to critique any movie. To have an open mind to critique THIS movie, you have to underscore your own thought process and sink your standards below sea level. This movie is truely horrible at all aspects! Understandably, this movie was made to make fun of Dewey Cox, and the actors have a decent reputation in the screen world, (such as Jack Black and a few from Saturday night Live), but the plots were weak, the punchlines were dumb, (an very slow), and the morals to the story bested out some of the worse movies made. The r rated language didn't help matters much either. From the first minute, this movie just bombed. This will definately be a bad mark in Mr. Reilly's career as an actor.
OVERALL
Often imitating legends such as Bob Dylan and Mr. Morrison, this movie is primarily attacking and undermining the life of the legendary singer, Johnny Cash. Personally, If I had the rights to Johnny Cash's name and estate, a lawsuit would've soon followed the release of this tragedy. Every plot made overly exaggerated Johhny Cash's decisions through his own private life. This movie often runs so slow with the punchline, the viewer was fully aware what was going to happen next, much less, what the punchline was. you feel that the director had to slow down the movie so a three-year old would catch the script.
Ignorance is bliss, but stupidity runs rampant in this movie that falls short of even being funny. Not suitable for adults, most less children, this movie often adores drugs and shows scenes of not just nudity, but FULL frontal nudity from both sexes. The morals of this movie often runs backwards, teaching others about the good side of taking drugs like dope, cocaine, and even prescribed medicine. Avoid this movie at all costs! This one doesn't even deserve A star!
