Pros: Very good taste, Satisfied hunger and is low carb, high fiber
In the past 2 months I've purchased and reviewed (on epinions.com ) these Walker Diet Low Carb Shakes:
I have rated them all 4 or 5 stars because they are really very good and very low priced. If you look at my other shake ratings, especially Peach, you'll see that I broke down the supplement facts as shown on the can. All of the cans seem to have the same ingredients, just different flavorings.
Here, I'm quoting from the Vitacost site:
"24g Protein, 1g Net Carbs! Effective meal replacements. Sugar-free, fiber-rich, hunger relief.
The Healthy Low Carb Lifestyle by Dr. John Walker. Chocoholics unite! Youve found your salvation with this sumptuous shake, loaded with the finest Dutch cocoa. Its as healthy as it is delicious, stocked with essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients, and is a perfectly refreshing accessory to your low carb lifestyle.
Dive into a sinfully rich taste sensation, with Walker Diets line of shake mixes. These multi-functional low carb shakes are effective meal replacements, as well as the perfect snack for those times when you need a nutritious pick-me-up. They are delicious on their own, and by simply blending in some ice, you can enjoy a frothy, creamy shake. Plus, they are specially designed for the busy lifestyle!
In addition to having just 175 calories or less per serving, these shakes contain no aspartame, saccharin or sugar, and are loaded with 600 mg of glutamine peptides, which control your sugar and carbohydrate cravings. And a unique time-released process aids slower digestion, thus providing long-lasting hunger relief, while promoting healthy blood sugar. The shakes feature a protein-rich Proleic Blend, which helps to build and preserve lean muscle tone. These shakes are also incredibly fiber-rich, which is useful for weight loss. Plus, health experts recommend a high-fiber diet to help defend against colon cancer and other diseases. In fact, these shakes actually contain more fiber compared to many breakfast cereals!
And when you drink one of these tantalizing treats, you are actually burning fat! Careful amounts of high oleic monounsaturates with EFAs help to optimize fat burning and heart health, while activating the CCK hormone, which provides a feeling of fullness. And as theyre part of the Walker Diet, they are packed with essential antioxidant vitamins, minerals and nutrients, including 100 mg of choline, an anti-fat nutrient which helps to support immune function and reduce stress brought on by the oxidation produced by the fat-burning process. "
I am a chocoholic and I can attest to the taste. I also agree with the other statements made above. These shakes do break down slowly in your system so that you don't go through sugar highs and lows. I am a Type II diabetic and
am losing weight with the hope that I will be able to control my blood sugar without having to use medication.
This shake tastes great, is satisfying and controls your hunger for about 1-2 hours. I try to eat around 600 calories per meal and think if I did 2 shakes, they would hold me longer. The shake is thick when you mix it with only 8 oz of water so I use approximately 12 oz.
The thing that has surprised me most is that when I'm hungry between meals, which only happens if I don't have a balanced meal before the hunger hits, I let myself have a shake, I don't panic over the calories, I know I'm going to feel clear headed and calm and satisfied until my next meal. The chocolate shake is especially good for chocolate cravings and the quality of the chocolate is a definite factor. The shakes buy me time to prepare a good meal without panicking. When I panic it's because I'm too hungry to make good decisions. I know there are those out there who know what I'm talking about.
