opalbabe's Full Review: Waring JEX328 400 Watts Juicer
The Waring Health Juice Extractor is an invaluable product to own. It is, by far, the best juicer that I have had the pleasure of owning.
We have wanted to buy our own juicer since the days in the 1980's with Jack Lallane and his wife doing an infomercial on television. We looked into them & were very discouraged. The main problem we had found was the cleaning aspect. Both my brother and my uncle owned different models of juicers. Both used them for about a month and then added them to the basement with all the other "too good to be true" items.
I had fished my brothers juicer out of his basement to see if I could enjoy the juicer instead of paying for a new one. I, too, shelved it after the first try. The cleaning was not nearly worth having fresh juice.
After reading another article in the newspaper about the health benefits of juicing I just had to look into the new updated models. After checking with epinions I found the same old problems with the juicers. Most had very low ratings for the tedious job of cleaning the awful pulp. Then I heard about the Waring Health Juice Extractor and tried it out at a friends house. I was totally impressed!
THE PARTS
~~ Pusher. This is a plastic "1/2 moon shaped" part that you actually push the fruit into the shredder.
~~ Cover & Feed Tube.
~~ Strainer Basket with Shredder Disk.
~~ Pulp Collector with Juice Spout.
~~ Power Switch.
~~ 32 oz Stainless Steel Juice Collector Cup.
~~ Cleaning Brush for Strainer Basket.
WHAT THE JUICER LOOKS LIKE
The juicer is approximately 12 inches tall and 9 inches wide. It's a large item, so think about how much counter space you have available!
The base, the back & sides of the juicer are made of a very attractive stainless steel. The top & spout area is a black plastic. The 32 oz cup is a very sturdy cup which is also made of stainless steel.
The cup has it's own built in area on the base so that you don't need to judge where to place the cup and end up with a mess.
HOW THE JUICER WORKS
The Waring Health Juice Extractor comes with a nice booklet with a few recipes to try out. It also give you a bit of information about how/when & how much juice you should consume to begin with. I'm a little embarrassed to warn you
~~ start slowly! This juice WILL clean you out fairly quickly! You'll need to get used to it for a few weeks before you drink larger quantities.
In addition, you should always drink these kind of juices alone & in between meals, having them at room temperature.
With that said, lets start juicing!
First you'll need to prepare your fruit and/or vegetables. Just some washing (especially if your leaving the skin on) and cutting is necessary. There is no need to remove the cores or skin on most fruits. Orange skins can be toxic. Don't cut the pieces too small, just in 1/2 should be enough.
Turn the juicer on and add them one at a time into the feed tube. Use the pusher to get them down into the shredder.
The motor is a bit on the loud side. But that is the only down side to this juicer. If you cut the fruit too small they will not be "juiced" well. Keep them at fairly large pieces.
To start cleaning this Waring Health Juice Extractor all you need to do is slightly rotate the lid of the juicer to the left. CAREFULLY take out the Strainer Basket with Shredder Disk. To remove the Pulp Collector just rotate slightly to the left to unlock it.
They do not recommend putting anything into the dishwasher. I was bummed at first, but once I found it took literally 3 or 4 minutes to clean, dry & re-assemble the juicer, I was fine with that.
SOME PERSONAL THOUGHTS
One thing I've learned about juicers is that they are certainly not all made the same. A very expensive unit might leave very wet pulp in the collector, which signifies a very low efficient juicer. With those juicers you could actually squeeze more juice out the pulp ~~ so why own a juicer?
With the Waring Health Juice Extractor it left very dry pulp behind so I knew I was getting the maximum amount juice from the fruit. I just take a few paper towels and wipe the inside of the pulp collector and it drops very neatly into the garbage. There is no sticky mess to clean out the pulp.
The Waring Health Juice Extractor has a very sleek design that should look nice in any kitchen (provided you have the extra room).
This comes with a small booklet that leaves you with no questions about the juicer. It covers the basic popular recipes, speaks briefly about fresh juice in general & what to expect. It even has a little bit of ideas how to recycle the pulp.
The Waring Health Juice Extractor boasts a durable die-cast base, brushed stainless steel housing, extra wide feed tube, 32 oz stainless steel juice collector & a 5 year limited motor warranty.
