I've been waiting in eager anticipation for the release of Watchmen on DVD.  I don't think I could be any more disappointed.  Watchmen may be one of the absolute worst movies I've ever had the displeasure to view.  Plan Nine From Outerspace is considered by some as the worse sc-fi movie ever made.  Well, that may not be the case any longer.  At least Plan Nine was a cheap crappy low budget thriller.  At least Plan Nine had an excuse to be bad.

Basically, Watchmen is about super hero types who've lived amongst us since WWI and WWII.  In the beginning, someone with super powers brutally kills an aging super hero.  Who did such a thing?  Why? 

The movie meanders back and forth between the past and the present, in an attempt to explain the characters.  It works to a point.  But, it is too lengthy.

There is one character, a guy with a cloth mask (who is my favorite), who will not give up and continues to pursue this murder, and the murder of other aging super heroes.  All the other super heroes of present are no longer active, because a law was passed not allowing people to wear masks.  haha.

The movie shows super heroes in the past, interposed with events that really happened, and in the present, which is fictionalized. 

In the present, which is the 80's by the way, Nixon is still President for another term.  I'll get back to that later.  The Cold War is in full force and a crisis, similar to the Cuban Missle Crisis and the stand off between the USA and Russia is heated and worsening rapidly.  Everyone is in fear of a nuclear holocast and the extinction of the human race.

The most powerful hero is Mr. Manhattan.  A blue guy who somehow gets his powers when he was mistakenly locked in a nuclear chamber of sorts.  He is a thinker and a philospher as well as a scientist, but is really stupid when it comes to common sense.  He has the power to transform matter.  He is almost Godly in his powers.

Some small battles between good and evil or even evil and evil are woven into the script here and there.  These super heroes aren't really like other super heroes we've come to expect.  They have all sorts of hang-ups.  Some like to hurt others as much as the evil people they are combating.

In the end, several cities are intentially wiped out by nuclear explosions made to look as though done by Mr. Manhattan.  Suddenly the world is at peace.  No more war.  Happy Ending.  Hahahahaha

Terrible, just terrible.  This movie is so 'black' in nature as to make the Dark Knight look like a comedy.

To make matters worse, I think Watchmen is longer than the Dark Knight.  We could not wait for it to be over.  It went on for hours.  Nothing but talking, especially by the idiot blue guy.  In the movie, they speak of time not being relevent.  They weren't kidding.  I sat in my lounge chair for hours starring at this movie and I felt as though time had actually stopped and it was never going to end.

Sex.  This movie is all about sex.  In fact, Mr. Manhattan likes to walk around in the nude everywhere, allowing his penis to just 'hang out'.  hahaha.  There are sexual scenes and even some hint of incest.  Others are also shown with the 'back sides' exposed. 

There is no good and evil. Basically everyone is evil.  Even the blue man.  He saw nothing wrong with millions being killed deliberately.  He also killed people with his powers.  All humans are basically evil, is the pretense.

Richard Nixon's nose looked terrible on the person playing his character.  It looked ridiculous.  This movie tried to make some political statements, but I'm not really sure what ideals were being promoted.  They really ridiculed Nixon.  Obviously, someone involved with this film did not like Nixon.  That is one point which cannot be missed.

All in all, Watchmen sucked.  If Watchmen broke any movie barriers, it was the test of how long a human being can sit without getting a sore behind.
