Webkinz are a popular toy craze for children and adult alike. Years ago it was Beanie Babies from Ty, and now its Webkinz from Ganz. If you are unfamiliar with Webkinz they are a plush toy that comes with a special online code that brings your plush to life in the virtual Webkinz World located at the www.webkinz.com website.

For my kids, the Webkinz that started it all was this Webkinz frog. If you like frogs, you are in luck as it comes to Webkinz since there is a whole frog "family" of Webkinz including the original frog, a tree frog, a bull frog, a spotted frog, and even miniature versions of some of these (lil' kinz frog & lil' kinz tree frog). Not surprisingly, since my son likes frogs - we have the entire clan of frogs here in our Webkinz collection.
This Webkinz Frog is the full size 8.5" plush that is an original Webkinz. They also sell a teeny tiny Lil' Kinz version that comes with all the same frog features in Webkinz World but is only about 5" in size (and extremely cute). When you buy your Webkinz Frog, usually from someplace like Hallmark (though they are readily available from online sellers and at random places like 7-11 or grocery stores) it will come with a blue tag in a sealed plastic protector affixed to it. This tag has the special unlock codes which you then enter at the Webkinz website. Webkinz pricing varies but you can usually find them for around $12.99 give or take. Special limited edition or retired Webkinz can go for a little bit or a whole lot more than that. At this time (December 2007), the frog is current and not retired so it is readily available. Webkinz are recommended for ages 3 and up, though the Webkinz world is really geared for a slightly older child (I would say 5+) or even an adults.
The Frog Plush is a drab green with a creme colored belly. Instead of being your usual plush toy it has a stringy texture to it which makes it really fun to touch. I happen to think the frog is a bit odd looking with its buggy eyes and stringy fur but this is my son's absolute favorite Webkinz. Perhaps that is because this was his very first one, and the one that started it all. We've had our Frog for about 6 months now and he still looks really good considering how much abuse he's taken. My son went through a phase where he wanted to take all of his Webkinz in the car with him everywhere we went including buckling them into a carseat. Since ours get played with, they get dirty too. This frog has been both spot washed and even thrown though the washing machine and survived just fine.
Frog Fun
In the Webkinz world your frog has some unique froggy attributes. Like a real frog it hops when you move it about in your Webkinz virtual space. Should you have a swimming hole or pool in your Webkinz world it swims differently (more frog-like) than many of the other 4-legged Webkinz pets. When you sign on your Frog you will get the following Frog Exclusive Items:
Buggy Jelly (Food) that your Frog will like to eat. Replenishment buggy jelly can be purchased at the W-Shop for 25 kinzcash, and is only available for purchase to Frog and Lil' Kinz Frog owners.
Lily Pad Waterbed for your Frog to sleep in while you are signed out or playing with any of you other Webkinz pets. The water bed is one of the larger pet exclusive items and is not available for purchase in the W-shop.
Should you want to create a virtual froggy fantasy world there is also a whole room decorating Lily Pad theme for purchase (using virtual currency, Kinzcash) including wallpaper, flooring and just about every piece of furniture you would want. Of course, you are not restricted to just pick from these items and can decorate your frog's home in the Webkinz world any way your heart desires.
The frog is a really fun addition to your Webkinz family, whether you have lots of them or are just starting out.
