Pros:Light and easy to start
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Featherlite Trimmer to anyone with a small amount of weedeating to do. This weedeater is a dependable tool for your yard.
After a year of borrowing my fathers weed eater I decided I wanted one of my own but I wanted on that was lighter and easier for me to use. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and weight is an issue when I buy anything that uses my hands or wrists.

I got in the truck and headed off to Wal-Mart. I took about 30 minutes deciding on what Weedeater I wanted. I knew I needed one I could run with little or no weight. I also needed one that had a very easy "pull" string that started the Weedeater.
I must have looked at 10 different Weedeater made by several manufacturers. I had no clue there was such a selection of Weedeater. I decided on the final two. They were both the Weedeater brand and I chose the Featherlite Trimmer for my yard. I do not have any heavy weeds to cut or thick brush to thin out so this lightweight Weedeater/trimmer would do the job for me.
I also needed a weed eater that my children could operate without much trouble. The kids were with me when I picked it out but the really showed no interest in the Weedeater until we got home. Then we were all like little kids at Christmas opening the biggest present under the tree. Now the race was on to see who would run it first. Of course I won! It was my new toy!
Right off the bat I was impressed with the weight of the Featherlite Trimmer. It weighs about 15 pounds at best. The weight is distributed as even ly as possible. The engine is small and encased in a green case. The fuel tank holds about 1/2 a gallon of fuel. Just the right amount of fuel for me to weedeat around my yard and my neighbors.
I am going to do the best I can to explain the shaft of the Weedeater. The shaft seems to be made of a light steel or heavy aluminum. It as about 5 feet long and curve the last foot or so. It is curved down in the shape of a J. The shaft has a handle about two feet down from the engine that you hold while you are weedeating.
The Weedeater itself is basically in one piece when you get it. The only thing you need to put on is the "guard" on the bottom that is also the guide so you do not kill your rose bushes (like my hubbie killed mine!) or any other little plants or bushes you may have growing.
You are given one full "load" of string to run the Weedeater for the first few times on the spool. You are also given an extra spool in the handle for extra line if you run out while working. This comes in very handy. Please be sure you buy extra Weedeater line BEFORE you leave the store. I did not and had to go back and buy some line. I bought the wrong line the first time. I got in a hurry and left the house without the owner’s manual or the spool so I could get the right one. Make sure you get an extra spool of line that is the right size before you leave the store and be sure to get your gloves and glasses as well. They are all in the same area.
The Featherlite Trimmer/Weedeater is very easy to start. There is a "primer" button that you push a few times to prime fuel into the carburetor so the engine will start. Similar to starting a lawnmower. There is a fuel bubble too so you can see that the fuel is flowing into the engine.
Before you start the Weedeater you need to be sure you are wearing long pants, gloves and safety glasses. Pieces of weeds or grass can fly into your face and get in your eyes. Please be safe.
In the Featherlite Trimmer/Weedeater book they suggest you put 3-in-1 oil in the fuel. I did not know this since dad always had the Weedeater fueled and ready to go! I had some at the house already for our lawnmower. Be sure you get some before you leave the store.
The Featherlite Trimmer/Weedeater is a breeze to start. One pull almost always gets it going. The motor is not very loud. It is a lite weight motor and not intended for heavy weeds. You will hear the motor "slow down" or get a deeper sound to it when you are trying to cut weeds to thick. Just step back and cut a little at a time. This trimmer can do the job just a little slower than the heavy duty one.
