Pros:It's Better Than Bowflex, The Price
Cons:Should Have Been Introduced Years Ago
The Bottom Line: Great For The Price, Many Improvements Over The Bowflex.
ATTENTION All Fitness Experts and Beginners! If you are looking for a way to get, or stay, in shape at a very reasonable price...then the Weider Crossbow is the choice for you!

If you like the Bowflex you will definately enjoy the Crossbow by Weider. Weider isn't really known for being innovative and this prooves that. But who can blame him, Bowflex is amazingly popular and why not try to get a piece of that pie? Especially when your product is better and far less expensive. The Crossbow is a fairly large piece of equipment. So you'll need a big space to accomodate it. But if you can it is well worth it.
65 Or More Exercises:
Yes, variety is the key. Yes, the Crossbow provides variety. There are also two new improvements to the Crossbow's design. The first is an improved design to allow for better resistance during the leg press. The other is an improved rail design to allow for frictionless rowing.
Some of the exercises include:
Chest Press, Chest Fly, Incline Fly, Straight Arm Pullover, Bent Over Row, Lat Pulldown, Hip Extension, Leg Press, Squat, Calf Raises, Ab Crunch, Hammer Curl, Tricep Kickback, and Shoulder Press.
These are only a few of the exercises you can do! There is also the valuable aerobic rowing. This is a feature, among others, that the Crossbow and Bowflex share but which is much better on the Crossbow.
- CRS Resistance - This stands for Compound Resistance System. According to Weider this allows for full range of motion.
- Quick Change Resistance - The weight is easily adjusted. Wasted time is virtually eliminated.
- Crossbows - This is the resistance mechanism. They have a lifetime warranty if that makes you feel good.
- Leg Developer - With this added feature you can do leg exercises, allowing you to do a true full body workout.
- Padded Bench - A quality padded bench for comfort.
- Lat Tower - A feature not on the Bowflex. This helps you build you lats, traps, and shoulders.
- Rowing Seat - For aerobic exercise, similar to Bowflex. However, the bench is more comfortable and there is more range of motion which is important for tall people like me (I'm 6'4").
You can purchase extra "weight" by upgrading with Power Packs in either 100- or 200-lbs increments. You can also order a Lat Bar to increase the variety of exercises. Nutritional supplements are also available.
Benefits Over Bowflex:
- Less Expensive
- More Weight Resistance
- Better Control
- Better Range Of Motion
- Leg & Lat Developer Come Standard
This is a surprisingly good piece of equipment. I first noticed it at a local sporting goods retail store. I tried it out and was pretty impressed. This led me to visit the store several more times, often with friends, to try it out again. Some of the sales people even started to recognize me and greet me by name. After a while I felt a little dorky coming in to keep trying this thing.
So...(drum roll please!)
I made the decision! I decided to buy it! I have only had it for two weeks, but I'm really enjoying it so far. There have not been any problems with my machine. I still use free weights because those are my favorite. However, free weights make doing circuit training very difficult. That's where my Crossbow come in.
It did take me some time to decide where to put it. But I found enough space in a spare bedroom I have that was being used for storage space. The size is the only bad part about this machine. But every machine is fairly large. My free weights take up a bit of space too so it's all about priorities.
All in all I'd say it couldn't be better...
I give the Weider Crossbow a very enthusiastic A+
