| smschleicher's Full Review: Weight Watcher's Points Weight Loss Program with F... |
I really like how the point/Flex point system makes it easy to keep track of what you are eating. It takes the intimidation factor out of trying to figure out calories, fat, etc. It seems like it works best for those who are looking to change their eating lifestyle. If you plan on going back to bad eating habits after you lose the weight, Weight Watchers won't be successful in the long run for you. They do a great job of stressing a healthy, balanced lifestyle that incorporates eating healthy foods and exercise. It's flexible enough to work with those who are gourmet cooks as well as those dependent on eating out.
If you need a lot of support, the meetings can be very helpful and there are a lot of resources available online, including discussion boards to get help/advice/support from others going through the same thing.
The meetings are franchise run, which means there can be quality differences between branches. I don't usually go for the group support thing, so for me, there was a certain amount of cheesiness to the meetings. Also, there is some push to buy their support products--ie point calculators, shake mix, water bottles, etc. that I didn't really appreciate--it makes for a weird mix to have a support system that is trying to constantly sell you something. Overall, it's fairly low key, low pressure, but there nonetheless. That said, I still liked the accountability of going in for a weekly "weigh in" and seeing the success rate of others. In retrospect, the online program may have been a better fit--and if you are looking to avoid the cheese and the sales pitch, that's the route I would recommend.
Ultimately, as with any weight loss program, it comes down to what works for you and how much committment you are willing to put into it. I found WeightWatchers to be the best in terms of offering a healthy, balanced way to lose weight and help me attain a healthier lifestyle. I haven't felt deprived and I feel I have the information and the tools to maintain my weight loss.
