deflep's Full Review: Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
Yes, I compared this album to Ziggy Stardust(David Bowie). Its an amazing story and really, before you read anymore, I'm telling you that you have to be into this kind of music(post hardcore/ punk rock/ emo) to like this.
Whats it about? Of course, a conception album has a story line. So, what is The Black Parade's story line you may ask. Well, it follows a character by the name of "The Patient". It follows him as he dies, talking much about memories that he has had. The Patient dies and his after life comes in the form of "The Black Parade" which is his fondest memory. This comes from Gerard Way(the singer)'s belief that death comes to you in your fondest memory.
Songs you might have heard
Obveiously, you've probably heard the song "Welcome to the Black Parade". This song is about The Patient's fondest memory. It tells about how when The Patient was a child his dad took him to a parade to see a band play. It says his father told him he'd leave him a "phantom" to help him. The song sounds a lot like it was arranged for a marching band. It has a number of orchestral instruments in it and features fugues, which is overlapping lines. It has a lot of pop appeal and a few catchy lines.
You might have heard "Teenagers". This is my favorite song off of the album. It speaks about how the violence in teenagers. It has an interesting way of putting things.
Over all this album is awesome and if I wasn't scared of boring you all to death with every song plot, I would tell you about all of them. The CD is an excellent one, it has amazing musicianship, and an grammy award winning plot.
