Naked Women of action in 70s sexploitation Super Chick & Hustler Squad

Pros:Superchick's first 45 minutes are pretty entertaining in a bad 70s movie sort of way.

Cons:Hustler Squad is mostly just dull.

The Bottom Line: Two low budget sleazy sexploitation movies from the 70s with sleazy trailers on one budget DVD

Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.

Tara:  Last one into bed gets no head.
Johnny: You're too Superchick for me, baby.

This Grindhouse double feature combines two low budget Crown International Pictures entries; SuperChick and Hustler Squad

1973's R rated sexploitation SuperChick is the first course. They don't make'em like this anymore and perhaps that's a good thing, but we have cheap, sleazy sex comedies like this now preserved in fairly good shape on DVD.    Although the acting is pretty bad and the forced comic moments pretty lame this artifact of the kind of sexploitation movies that played in 42nd Street grindhouse and on drive in movie screens in the early 1970s is a fairly interesting relic of its day.

Pretty women, ridiculous plot, fairly generous nudity and some unbelievably tacky lines such as "In the Words of Shakespeare: let's not louse up a good thing" add up to a watchable baad movie if you are in the mood for such a thing.

You want tacky hair, ridiculous 70s clothes, bad Karate, our main character jumping in and out of bed with a variety of people?  You've got it.

Tara B. True aka SuperChick is a swinging babe with an upbeat positive philosophy on life and living and of course swinging.
She's a stewardess who has rich or hot guys in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and other places.  She dresses down and dowdy when she's working as a stewardess for Crown International Airlines (since it's a Crown movie why not?).

Johnny:  You know what that is out there?
Tara: Sure that's the Atlantic Ocean.
Johnny: Wrong, that's the world's largest waterbed.

It's Joyce Jillson starring as the often naked, over sexed patriotic SuperChick.  Her New York boyfriend is Ernest (Thomas Reardon) a rich brain surgeon, and her man in Los Angeles is a young pop star named Davy Charles (Timothy Wayne Brown) and her main guy Johnny (Tony Young) in Miami lives on a boat.  Johnny also bets and loses too much at the dog racing track and owes lots of money to Garrick (Louis Quinn) a low rent bookie...  The bookie figures a hot stewardess might be able to help him with a scheme he has to rob a money man (which involves hijacking a plane too).

While this thin and farfetched plot slowly develops we jet set around the country with our SuperChick who rewards a dedicated Marine with a Mile High Club experience; and parties in Los Angeles which gives cult skin flick star Uschi a small supporting role and a chance to show off her uh... generous assets .

John Carradine shows up as a ‘once famous actor who starred in a lot of b horror movies' and is now a perverted old man.  SuperChick quickly has the situation under control.

"Wow someone must have dropped some acid in his Geritol. It's sickos like him that give Hollywood a bad name."

The plot barely matters; it's just filler in between times when various characters disrobe.   Since the pace is fast, the dialogue memorably bad, the early 70s artifacts plentiful, this one is a little better than most provided all your expecting is a low budget trash film.

The first 45 minutes is by far the best, but baad movie lovers will find enough awful moments.

The title sequence obviously inspired the opening sequence of Tarantino's Jackie Brown. It simply shows SuperChick strolling through the airport.

Make no mistake... SuperChick is a worthless film.   If you have a yearning for a silly sexploitation film from the early 1970s it might be worth watching and making fun of with a small group of people.  Anyone looking for something else will be very disappointed.
And remember:

"The Astroturf always looks greener in the other guy's ballpark!"

1976'S THE HUSTLER SQUAD is a talky low budget shot entirely in the Philippine semi-action exploitation movie.

It's World War 2 and there's a large bordello on a Philippine island that is used by Japanese officers.  Several attempts at trying to attack the bordello have been thwarted.  So the less than conventional major Stony Stonewall (TV actor John Ericson) stationed in Australia is told he needs to come up with a way to kill some of the Japanese officers who visit the bordello.  . (His real life wife Karen Ericson plays his assistant and secretary). Soon after he gets together with the leader of the Island's resistance movement (played by Ramon Revilla), who escaped the Island and made his way to Australia, he comes up with an idea to recruit and train women as assassins.

Four women are recruited; an nymphomaniac who is in prison for killing her former lover (Nory Wright) a shy chaste terminally ill nurse (Johanna Raunio), a woman whose was raped by Japanese troops after her family was killed (Liza Lorena) and a call girl (Lynda Sinclaire, aka Crystin Sinclair of Ruby and Eaten Alive) who is on the run from the mob.

They are trained for their mission and have long conversations while in their nighties lusting after men. A by the book officer tells the General he believes the mission is a big mistake and that no woman can kill a man with her bare hands.  The General agrees and is about to scrap the mission when the women fight back to change the commanding officer's mind.  They succeed.

So eventually the girls are flown to the Philippines to infiltrate a party attended by the men they are to do in.

Every five minutes or so you see or hear something awful enough to possibly keep you watching, but this one would serve better as a non-narcotic sleep inducer. Cirio H. Santiago (THE BIG DOLL HOUSE, THE HOT BOX) produced this one with Cesar Gallardo doing the directing chores.

DVD DETAILS
The two movies can be viewed by themselves or together as part of the THE GRINDHOUSE EXPERIENCE, where you are shown two sleazy movie previews before each feature.  A brief intermission card and please throw away your trash announcement (and two previews) separates the two movies.  You can also watch them individually.
Both prints look reasonably good with lots of film scratches.  Hustler Squad is shown full frame.

BOTTOM LINE:
There are better bad and/or bad sleazy movies out there to watch then these two.  SuperChick is pretty entertaining but Hustler Squad will test almost anyone's patience.   3 stars for SuperChick's baaadness but only 1 for Hustler Squad.  The 4 exploitation trailers are fun to watch.
