Pros: Environmentally friendly, inexpensive, standard and metric measurements, microban protection
Cons: Made in China, however, this is a high quality product nonetheless.
Of all of the tools I keep around the house, one of the most basic tools is a ruler. I keep several rulers around my house because you never know when one might come in handy. I keep one at my desk, one in each toolbox, and one in with my craft supplies, so there is always one handy when needed.
The ruler I keep at my desk is the Westcott KleenEarth Recycled Plastic Ruler with Microban Protection. It is similar to many other rulers in many ways, but this ruler goes above and beyond many of the basic measuring utensils. The Wescott Plastic Ruler is made of 70% recycled materials (30% post consumer recycled materials) so it is better for the environment. Even the packaging materials that it comes in are made from recycled materials.
Like many other rulers, this one is made of plastic. It is made of black plastic, and contains a faux burled wood inlay for an expensive look, yet it is relatively inexpensive at just a couple of dollars each. There are both standard and metric measurements on this ruler. The standard measurements are in increments of 1/16 inch and one inch, and span the 12 inch ruler. The opposite side of the ruler features metric measurements ranging from millimeters to centimeters. This ruler is versatile enough for measuring most smaller objects around the home.
Another nice feature about this ruler is that it is made with a built in microban technology that will never wear out. What this means is that it is treated with a material that helps to inhibit the growth of bacteria that can spread from one user to another, and also can cause stains and odors. Treating this ruler with microban makes it an ideal tool for shared areas such as classrooms, break rooms, offices, or even at my desk where the kids and grandkids are always borrowing it for their homework or other tasks.
The Wescott Plastic Ruler is great for measuring, but also works well as a straight edge for drawing, marking lumber for some repair work, craft projects and much more. There is rarely a day that goes by where this ruler doesn't get used for something, and despite the heavy usage, it has held up well for a couple of years now.
Another nice feature about the Wescott Plastic Ruler is that the sides are beveled with a groove down the center that you can use as a pencil rest. It also features a hanging hole on one end, so you can hang it near your work area for easy access.
Although the Wescott Plastic Ruler is made in China, it is still a high quality product. Even though I generally prefer American made products, I have been quite happy with this ruler and would recommend it for anyone who needs a ruler.
