About Me: It's easier to build a child than repair an adult

Hey anybody want to buy a timeshare? How bout a cheap vacation?

Written: Mar 01 '03 (Updated Mar 01 '03)
Pros:amenities and pricing
Cons:that timeshare thing
The Bottom Line: ......

Take some time and pamper yourself, book a stay at Westgate Lakes in Orlando, Florida. Sure you have to listen to the sales blurb about timeshares and vacation homes, but that isn’t until the end of your stay and I guess you can suffer a little while for that, can’t you? How’s your sales resistance? Then again, maybe you ARE interested in a nice timeshare smack dab in the center of all of Orlando’s fine attractions.

Either way, you can’t do wrong visiting this wonderful spot.

The amenities are fantastic, lounge, bike trails, clubhouse, exercise room, fishing lake, playground, steam room, swimming pool, tennis court, paddle boats, all manor of ball courts, and planned activities geared for adults and for children. It is a safe, gated community with keyed entrance.

Sure, I knew from the giddy up I wasn’t going to buy a slice of the pie but for the price I paid [less than $200] I let them wine me and dine me and I listened to their sales talk. I know where the term land sharks comes from – grin. Seriously, the deal they offer is fantastic and the arrangements can’t be beat, but I wasn’t in the market. I’m not interested in a slice of pie in Florida, I want the whole damn pie with ice cream.

The unit, click on the link below to see the great pics, was a two-bedroom/two-bath unit which will accommodate 8 with no problem. The master suite had a small swimming pool that they passed off as a whirlpool. I could have easily swum in it. A glass walled shower was separate with the usual things [toilet/sink]. The one drawback was there was no dividing wall between the bathing area and the bedroom proper and a gal likes a little modesty once in a while. No modesty here though because there are mirrors everywhere reflecting you as you play in the pool …. Oops, tub …. Or sit on the bed or walk from room to room. Supplied towels were huge and plentiful and soft. Oh yeah, toilet paper was A+.

The second bedroom had two full sized beds with the usual bedroom stuff like tables and lights. Both bedrooms had huge walk-in closets and plenty of drawer storage space. The second bathroom was not connected directly to the other bedroom and contained a full sized tub, shower and that toilet and sink once again.

A full kitchen with range, microwave, full sized fridge, dishwasher, and all the pots, pans and goodies you need including soaps and towels. A table with seating for 6 was separate from the kitchen area and there was a breakfast bar as well. All utility appliances are included like mixer, blender, you know, kitchen toys.

The living room contained a sofa bed that was softer to sit on than a cloud. Off the living room was a balcony that overlooked the lake. TV’s and VCR’s were all over the place, computer ports, phones, irons, ironing board, and maid service. Life is great isn’t it? Or I’m a spoiled brat, I don’t know which.

A mandatory complimentary breakfast was served the final day, full breakfast not continental. Of course that was to get you herded into a room so one of their sales staff could swoop down on you. Really, I make fun but the staff was quite pleasant and not too pressuring at all. They make their pitch, make a second pitch, and then walk away with no hard feelings. I was quite comfortable the entire time.

Being centrally located in the entertainment capital of Orlando, you are less than 15 minutes away from Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, etc. A large shopping mall is around the corner and everything is easily accessed from I-4.

They offer an exchange program where you can exchange your timeshare time from another community with time at Westgate Lakes, a pretty good deal as far as I’m concerned. You really should do yourself a favor and check this out at their home page:

for more information about timeshares and costs. To see the pictures of the unit I used, copy and paste the link below.
