Obviously my confusion has caused a big ordeal and for that I'm sorry. I have reposted this to the correct listing. This is identical to the 16' Wave Runner except this one is 18'. Thanks for the re-read!
We came across the Slip and Slide Wave Runner on sale while we were shopping for a birthday present. The kids had been begging for one since they saw the neighbors playing on theirs and we agreed that it looked like fun. We could tell by the appearance the product wouldnt be very durable but for $8 we didnt expect too much.
Parts are Parts
The slip in slide comes in a box with a plastic waterslide with attached inflatable bumper, 4 plastic steaks, and two repair patches.
Additionally, you will also need an outside water faucet and garden hose nearby.
Set Up
Set-up is quick and easy. Choose a level grassy spot and roll out the slide. Put the four plastic stakes in to hold down the slide then take a couple minutes to blow up the bumper. The bumper doesnt require a lot of effort; we didnt get the pool pump out for this. The hose connects to the water slide. Turn the faucet on until the right amount of water sprays from the jets. The water will spray on both sides of the slide getting the long piece of plastic wet so that the user can slide across it. The person will not be able to slide without the water.
Setting this up on a hill is tempting however the smallest incline ruins the experience because the weight of the body throws the person off the slide into the grass. As a safety precaution there should be a clearance of 10 feet all the way around the slide because the body can sometimes slide off of the slide.
It is important to look carefully on the ground to make sure the slide isnt placed on top of anything sharp since the childs body will be sliding across it. (Note from experience: check for dog doo too)
How to Slide
To slide start low and almost dive or slide on the slide with arm reached forward. With enough force at push off the body will slide across the slide and the bumper at the end will stop them.
Their website indicates that there were a few bonuses for this year on this model such as 2 extra feet and extra water. I originally thought that longer means more fun but actually 16 feet is about right for reaching the end of the slide.
Who can use this
The box indicates that this is only for children ages 5-12 years old. The reason for this is that older children (for example adults) are at a great risk of spine, neck, or head injuries.
This is to be used only with adult supervision because serious or fatal injury can result from horsing around.
Price and Location
This is a seasonal item and can be found in the pool section (usually near the toy isle) of discount stores. The price runs from $8 on sale to $13 retail.
My experience
My daughter who is 5 was not able to figure out how to go down the slide. She wanted to slide across but her mind just wouldnt let her fall to the ground and do it. My 11-year-old went down it many times and enjoyed it a great deal. There were a lot of ouches called out.
Our kids really showed interest in the slide and enjoyed it. It was fun to watch them run around and be a kid.
There were a few drawbacks such as the stakes didnt keep the slide down so it kept sliding around. The water didnt flow correctly through the holes. When the slide moved the nozzle moved so the water began to trickle rather than spay which required constant adjusting.
This slide is very fragile so I dont expect it to last long. The water jets already come and go as they please. The runner of the slide is very thin and could easily tear. The stakes dont hold the slide into the ground and now the rings that the stakes go through are torn.
Overall
I really dont recommend this toy and wish we didnt get it. I was really leery after reading all of the warnings on the package about death and paralysis which I didnt read until after we got home. If I had read all of the cautions at the store I would never have brought this toy home. After a few uses its already in poor shape. Not a durable product and much too dangerous to justify.
