Those of you who have followed my review of audio products know that I am constantly seeking audio products that sound significantly better than what their costs would indicate. I recently came across the Wharfedale Diamond Anniversary 7.2 speakers. This model is a special edition of the Whafedale Diamond 7.2 speakers. The difference between the Anniversary model and the plain model is as follows.
Recommend this product?
1.Real wood veneers in Teak, Oak, Rosewood and Black Ash.
2.Dual speaker binding posts to enable bi-wiring or bi-amping.
3.Closer matching of drivers in the speakers.
4.They retail for $349/pair
The Wharfedale Diamond Anniversary 7.2 speakers have won audio awards in Europe for performance versus cost. This speaker is relatively small 2-way speaker that is ported in the rear. Because of this, these speakers need to be on speaker stands and away from the back wall. I have mine on 31” speaker stands that are sand filled and about 6’ from the back wall. I should also mention that the speakers were positioned using a lazer level. The speaker is rated with a sensitivity of 89dB, so it is a bit above average.
How good do they really sound you ask? I recently asked an older gentleman who listened to these speakers in my home as to how much he thought these speakers cost after listening to them. His guess was that they were $3,000 a pair. On another occasion, I asked a member of a local audio club who had come over to my house to listen to my audio system the same question. He first asked me what sub-woofer I had. I replied that the sub-woofer I had was turned off and all he was listening to were the pair of Wharfedales. He then told me that he thought they cost $1500 a pair.
