Pros: High capacity using less detergent, energy and water makes for an efficient machine.
Cons: Expensive. Water can still leak during "add a garment" cycle.
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't give up this machine for twice the price since it has made doing laundry a pleasure. If you do lots of laundry, nothing else even comes close.

| gonewithwind's Full Review: Whirlpool GHW9200L Front Load Washer |
We purchased this machine as a part of our recent kitchen renovation. Since I already had a working washer in another part of the house I wanted a machine that would offer more; I got more with the Duet and couldn't be happier.
First of all, I am a high capacity user. With six in my family, I had routinely done about 24-28 loads of laundry a week. Because this machine holds more laundry per load, I do fewer loads. I also find that because I can use the high spin feature, I cut my clothes drying time down considerably.
I find that this machine is very easy to use. For most loads, I usually use the normal cycle and then only two buttons are used to turn on the controls and to start the machine if I am using the warm/cold default cycle. If I want to change the cycle to hot/cold or cold/cold, I'm still only using 3 buttons. This machine is easy enough to even teach a disinterested teen how to help with laundry!
When my child recently had the flu, I used the sanitary feature to cleanse his sheets and some of his garments. While this cycle took much longer (one hour 55 minutes versus 40 minutes), I was grateful to have such a feature to depend upon to reduce spreading germs.
I also was happy to learn that I could clean my daughter's sleeping bag after a recent camping trip with her class. In the past, I had needed to go to a laundromat after such a trip in order to use their high capacity machines. Now, I can easily clean bulky items right at home using a special setting.
There are so many settings with different wash cycles on my Duet. I love that I can wash silks in a special cycle as well as woolens or one just for other garments that usually need to be washed by hand. There is even a special setting for the "whitest whites." I can use a "quick wash" setting which reduces the normal cycle to 30 minutes ... perfect when a school uniform has been forgotten and needs to be cleaned quickly.
In my laundry area, I have both Duets and so the dryer is stacked on top of the washer with a special adapter from Whirlpool. I really don't notice too much vibration and the machine is really very quiet ... much more silent than my previous washer. Even on the high spin cycle, I can keep a large basket on top of the units without fearing that it will fall due to vibration.
The machine is very easy to load and it is also simple to add detergents, any fabric softener or bleach that one would desire for cleaning. There are special compartments to put in any of the laundry additives.
Because of the front loading feature, I am using a detergent now designated "high efficiency" and I am using less detergent per load. I am also using less water and not agitating my clothes but instead tumbling them through the water. I suspect that this will be kinder to my garments.
There is an "add a garment" phase of the wash ... that is in case you forgot to add something originally such as a stray sock. This feature really doesn't work too well for me and I find that I have to really watch to make sure I don't get liquid on the floor when opening up the washer door. I must say I truly appreciate that I have a window to watch when the water stops if I do have to use the "add a garment" feature.
I got both my washer and dryer in the pewter finish and I must say that I really like the way it looks. I was going to order white but realized that I have no white appliances in my kitchen; the gray of the pewter looks very modern and good with other appliances that have a stainless finish. I think that this color will show wear less as my machines look just like new 6 months after they were installed.
I felt that it was a very expensive machine, but I suspect savings in detergent, energy and water will more than pay for itself in the long run.
As someone that usually does a lot of laundry, I must say I wouldn't give up my Duets. They have made this dreary task easier for me. Yes, they really are a reason to love doing laundry!
