a Helpful Review
by the Epinions community
We moved into a new house last December. I pored over appliance specs and discussion boards( see http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/appl/ )for months. I had pretty much decided to go with the Monogram single oven, with an Advantium (a speed oven made by GE) to match. Our contracter sent us to a plumbing and kitchen outfitter (I guess you would classify the place as such). The woman who worked with us recommended the Whirlpool Gold line for the oven and refrigerator. I was resistant to her advice, but when I saw the price difference compared with my 'dream' oven, I was immediately convinced to compromise. Well, it has not been much of a compromise. This oven heats quickly, the convection feature browns food evenly, and it cooks quickly. I've yet to run it through a self-clean cycle, as it has remained pretty clean so far. It has a good capacity. The only thing I don't like about it is the cooling fan that stays on for about 30 minutes after the oven is turned off. The pushbutton controls are intuitive, and very flexible. I recommend a thorough reading of the manual to learn the nuances and capabilities of the machine.

The upper oven is a microwave. That is what I thought before trying the Speedcook feature. This little oven browns chicken patties, french fries etc. in about 8 minutes. I'm the kind of cook who is not well organized. I'll walk into the kitchen and want something to eat now - not do a lot of preparation. This Speedcook oven suits my lack of planning perfectly. I've had no experience with servicing the oven - and hope not to!
