asw-iii's Full Review: Whirlpool WED6400S Electric Dryer
Why I bought it...
I bought this dryer as part of a set to replace the old Speed Queen set from 1982.I could no longer tolerate the old Speed Queen dryer, to took forever to dry clothes (3 hours) and then once dry, over-dryed and cooked them. The dryer I bought was the one that matched with the Cabrio washer, so I was somewhat destined to purchase it but I was also impressed by its very large capacity.
Experience using the Cabrio dryer...
I've done a ton of laundry since the set was delivered. The washer is huge capacity so its good that the dryer can handle a lot too. Its very easy to use with a good range of settings. There are ample ways to adjust your settings, if you are so inclined to micromanage. The nice thing is with the sensor you can just let it do the work.
I love that I can set it to beep at me when things are just damp dry. This allows me to throw a nice blouse in with towels and not worry about wandering off, forgetting, and frying it. I also like to use the wrinkle prevent feature because I frequently am wandering off (chasing my son) while the dryer is running (a habit formed since the old dryer took hours to dry a load). When the cycle finishes and no one opens the door, the dryer turns the clothes a couple rotations to fluff them every few minutes so the wrinkles don't set. The touch up setting is nice for fluffing out wrinkles and warming a towel up for after a bath.
The negatives:
Because I had such an awful dryer that this one replaced I should be easily pleased, and over all I am but...When is Whirlpool going to figure out that people don't like to pull out a lint trap on top of their dryer. It dumps lint on the dryer top, a normally great place to fold clothes! Now I have to dust my dryer before I fold clothes on it?! The location of the lint trap is the only thing I miss about the old dryer.
Whirlpool boasts of a 30-minute quick dry setting. In my experience this really only works totally (totally dry clothes after 30 minutes) on small loads and not towels or jeans. Its not horrible but its not really dry either.
The last minor complaint is the time remaining display. For the washer, the time remaining is basically an absolute. Not so for the dryer. Its more like an estimate of remaining dry time, so that sometimes I'll walk past and see 6 minutes displayed. Then I walk past five minutes later and it still says 6 minutes. I suppose this is because of the sensor but its kind of funny.
