dtskiles's Full Review: Whirlpool DU1055XTSQ 24 in. Built-in Dishwasher
We rather assumed that a more expensive Whirlpool Dishwasher would be better than the cheap builder-model that we already had and kind of liked (until we moved.) Not so.
Overall, it's a pretty typical dishwasher. It includes a food disposal, so no more cleaning pieces or vegetables out of a secluded tray. It has variable wash patterns, extra rinse, sani-rinse and all the usual suspects inside, like dual soap dispensers and the rinse-aid dispenser.
What we liked: 1. It's quiet. Very quiet. You can hear the whooshing, but that's about it. We certainly don't have to turn the TV up anymore. 2. Smooth exterior is easy to keep clean. Simple design makes for simple cleaning. 3. Cup clips. These are nice for the cheap plastic cups that my kids like. But these are essentially a 50-cent piece that I could probably buy elsewhere.
What didn't like: 1. If you haven't already heard, the silverware basket is the Achille's Heel here. It hangs precariously on the outside of the lower basket. The latch is flimsy and it has a horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE habit of flipping open and flinging all the silverware out onto the floor. I though it was ours until another family member bought the model above ours (stainless interior) with the same basket. Same problems. You can mount it to the inside of the door, but once you pull the lower basket out, you can't reach the silverware any longer. 2. Upper basket is not well designed. They thought it would be a neat feature if you could raise and lower the upper basket. Not so. What this does is take away space for the contraption that manages the height of the basket, but the fact is that I don' t know anyone who actually raises/lowers the basket. 3. Upper sprayer. We had this replaced the first month. Some models come with this threaded backwards or something, and as it turns, it comes unscrewed essentially.
