My cat, Music, is a bit odd when it comes to foods. For the longest time, he showed no interest whatsoever in "treats". Our previous cats always went crazy for Pounce brand products, but Music just walked away. Then we discovered the Whiskas Temptations line of treats, and we've been a snack-happy house since then.
Best of all, they make lots of flavors, and Music seems to like them all. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, these dual-textured morsels seem to do the trick.
You might wonder why I'm so happy that there are treats that Music likes. It's because we use them as "bribes". That's right. You see, Music gets to go outside, on our screened-in deck. But he has to come inside, if we're leaving the house, or late at night when we want to go to bed. And believe me, if he's not ready to come in, there's no way to get him in, without some method of bribe.
And that's where the Temptations come in. Just a shake of the bag gets Music to at least acknowledge our presence. Then we lay a trail of these snacks leading directly to the door, then, finally, through the door. We can see the battle within his little brain - "I really want to stay outside. But those Temptations taste great. What to do, what to do..." Nearly always, he comes inside.
We buy these snacks in all of their flavors, as Music seems to like them all, and we enjoy giving him a variety. This review is for their Wild Alaskan Salmon flavor. Each treat is a small rectangle, each side less than 1/4". Music's big, but even little kitties can eat treats this size. The first five ingredients are chicken by-product meal, ground corn, animal fat, dried meat by-products, and rice. Much further down the list is "natural wild Alaskan salmon flavor". There are tons of other ingredients including a bunch of vitamins. It says these are "100% nutritionally complete & balanced for all life stages". As far as the analysis goes: Crude Protein - Min 30%, Crude Fat - Min 17%, Crude Fiber - Max 4.5%, Moisture - Max 12%.
The 3oz bright-foil bags are re-sealable, and cost just a couple bucks. Sometimes I find them in multi-packs that can save you money.
I don't pretend that these treats are particularly healthy, or that they are anything close to a meal-replacement. But Music enjoys these occasional treats, and I enjoy having a fairly reliable method of bribing him to come indoors.
