Pros: Cat's love it, I love the foil package.
Cons: The foil package should be resealable.
The Bottom Line: It makes my cats happy. Not opening cans of cat food with a can opener makes me happy. It fulfils the nutritional requirements

My gruesome twosome has turned into the gruesome threesome. Let me explain. Molly cat is a big black beautiful cat that we rescued from a cat rescue organization. She was an offspring of a feral cat. She spent the first year of her life in a cage. So when we brought her home she didn’t have the finer points of being a cat entirely figured out. She stuck to everything. We followed behind her unsticking her. But the only thing she would eat was dry cat food. Second rescue was an abandoned kitten that the animal shelter had for adoption. Sweet little kitten. We named him Mikey because Mikey will eat anything and everything. He is now the biggest cat I have ever seen. Not fat, but big and muscular. That was the end of getting anymore cats. So I thought!
There is a big feral cat problem around the mobile home court where we live. I sneak food out in the middle of the night. Every evening when we went for a walk we would see this mostly Siamese kitten. She was very wild. Many times I would see her following us. But any attempted to go near her she would run and hide. I couldn’t catch her no matter what I tried.
Shortly before Christmas my daughter walked up to her grandparents mobile home. When she came home she wouldn’t come in the house. She called to me to come outside. In her arms was this little wild Siamese kitten. What the??? Next thing that came out of her mouth was could we keep her? So I took the little darling tooth, nails and all into the office to ask my husband George if we could keep her. I doubt if this sweet man would ever deny me anything and he does love animals. After all I have hauled home skunks, raccoons and other animals so what is one little kitten going to hurt?
As feral go she still is very fearful. She finally will sit in my lap but only if I am in my office chair at my computer. Here she will chase my cursor all day! Sorry for the long delay in getting started with this review up you really must understand this gruesome threesome to understand why feeding them is so difficult. Molly HATES the new kitten. Molly hates anything but her dry cat food. Micky still will eat anything. Squeaky (the Siamese kitten, and DON'T ASK how she got her name) likes anything as long as it is cat food. Will not eat any human food of any kind unless it is vanilla ice cream.
Since Whiskas has come out with their nifty little foil packages I have started using soft cat food a lot more than I use too. I still feed mostly dry cat food but I’m sure cats enjoy a little diversity once in a while too.
I have always hated opening cans of cat food. The cans need a can opener. If it is one of those new fangled flip tops it splatters all over when you flip the top. I really don’t enjoy the smell of cat food as a kitchen perfume. The brightly colored foil packages tears open very easily. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it should have a way to reseal it. But with three cats in the house now that is no longer a big problem.
I know that why cat food cupboard looks a heck of a lot more exciting than my human food cupboard. What do you want tonight guys? The choices are Chicken and Salmon Dinner in Sauce, Tuna in Sauce, Ocean Whitefish & Tuna Dinner in Sauce, Poached Salmon in Sauce and Cod & Shrimp in Sauce. What ever you decide on is what I review tonight. This is where they groan because anytime I review one of their dinner choices they don’t get to eat as fast. But tonight just go for it guys! We’re not comparing! They just hate it when I do a litter review! They decided on Cod & Shrimp in Sauce. They have a rough life, don’t they! I had to eat my daughter’s cooking tonight, I should of join the cats.
Consider the label. Whiskas Homestyle “slow cooked flavor” It’s literally slow cooked for better flavor. Leave it to Whiskas to consider doing something like this. Aren’t they the ones that came out with those neat little nuggets with the soft stuff inside?
Another thing I like about the foil packages. I don’t have to spoon or fork it out of the can. It pours out. Let’s look at this label a little closer. There are instructions on how to open the foil packages. Kind of like McDonalds cups that hold coffee. The contents may be hot. Will duh! The foil package says to shake pouch to settle food and tear the pouch open. Pour the cat food out. No fork needed. They are right about that and the little foil packages are much less messy than cans.
Do they like the flavor? I can hide worm medicine in it and they eat it. They must like the flavor. The taste must be tasty enough to over ride that nasty worm medicine too. I refuse to smell the cat food because I learned a long time ago what smells good to a cat doesn’t necessarily smell good to a human.
Another pretty neat little feature. How many times do you go to the grocery store and the cashier goes to scan an item and they turn the product over and over looking for the bar code? Right on the back of the foil package is a big bold bar code. Easy to find, easy to see and always scans with out fail! Now that can be important to some people, especially cashiers.
The daily feeding guide is to feed adult cats two to two and half pouches per five pounds of body weight. I personally never feed that much. Since their main diet is dry cat food I usually divide one package between the three of the little monsters.
Molly loves the gravy. She licks every bit of it up. Mikey eats his portion as fast as he can because he knows Molly will leave the morsels. As soon as she jumps down, he jumps up and helps her finish it off. Now Squeaky is much more lady like. She delicately eats hers until one of the other cats offers her help then she hisses and finishes it off in no time at all. They really do like the stuff. Molly doesn’t like chunks of anything. Real fussy cat.
The prices are usually pretty good though it does seem to range a great deal between different stores and different times. I have seen it for any thing from three for a dollar to forty-eight cents apiece. This particular foil package I bought when my brain was soft, it costs forty-eight cents. The foil package size is 3.0 OZ.
The main ingredients are sufficient water for processing, (I suppose if it is slow cooked they need water for processing) chicken, meat by-products, cod and shrimp. Additional ingredients are vitamins and preservatives. Looking a human food and animal food I swear archeologists will find us better preserved than they found the Egyptian Mummies.
Whiskas Home style slow cooked flavor favorites with cod & Shrimp in Sauce is manufactured by Kal Kan foods in Vernon California. Waltham owns Kal Kan. Waltham does a great deal of pet research leading to exciting new developments in giving your pet’s life better nutrition. Like for instance have you heard the news that giving an antioxidant blend to puppies can enhance their immune response? Check out the new WALTHAM antioxidant blend.
Will anyway what else can you say about a pouch of cat food. The cats eat it. They seem to like it. It is easy to open and serve. It’s not over priced except at Save Mart in GALT CALIFORNIA!!! Yell!!!! The foil pouches are easy to store and to travel with. They stick in the sides of suitcases real nicely between socks. It fulfils the nutritional requirements if feed according to directions. They provide a very nice bar code. And if you need to know how to open the foil package they provide detailed instructions
