Radar Ignorant (Reply to this comment)

You obviously don't have a clue how radar and radar detectors work. First of all, the majority of police cars don't have radar units in them. Second, the ones that do don't necessarily have theirs on all the time. Therefore just because you passed a cop and your detector didn't go off doesn't mean the detector is bad. Many cops (like the ones you encountered) use instant-on radar which doesn't transmit until you're up close, that way they can surprise you. That would render any detector useless (including more expensive ones). As for false alarms...all detectors suffer from them (that includes the $40 and the $200). All a detector does is listen for noise on certain frequencies which radar operates on. Whenever you are nearby an automatic door opener, it is going to go off (it uses radar to know when someone's walking in). A more expensive detector would get you slightly better sensitivity and a longer range, but does that make it a better value? You can't say a product is bad when you don't know what's better.
