| navin2000's Full Review: Whistler DE-1655 Radar Detector |
Hi,
I brought the Whistler 1655 recently and used it for a week, before returning it at Best Buy. The reason was that one of the features in it did not work as described in the manual.
There is a City button, toggling, which you set it in the city mode or remove it from the CITY mode, and one of the LED's is supposed to glow up to indicate it is in the City mode, but this never worked.
I exchanged for another piece and the same result, so tired I had to return it.
Since this is an important feature, I did not want to keep the detector even though i got it dead cheap for ( $78 bucks) because of a sale and a coupon at Best Buy during the first week of October. If the city mode feature is not working, i have greater chances of getting false alarms.
The CITY button glow's up falsly when I press the Quite button, there is a lot of discrepancy as to what is written in the manual and what the detector does, when it comes to the QUITE and CITY buttons. There are clear graphic representations of what the detectors display shows when you press the QUITE button, and that is far from what the detector shows. The detectors display is made up of LEDs while if you want to see what the manual says you will need the detector to have a liquid crystal display..like the one you have in digital watches !! And mind you the manual is not a generic one, it is specifically made for Whistler 1655.
Since I had the detector only for a week and had gone on the freeway just 2 or 3 times, I wouldn't be doing justice saying if it detects the real signals ( cops ) or not, as I did not get any such signal during the time I had it. But just thought would let you know about the bug. If not for this bug, I think it is pretty good one.
Enjoy
