~~~WHITE CLOUD TRAINING PANTS~~BEAR IN THE BIG BLUE HOUSE FANS MAY JUST LOVE THESE!
Written: Jun 30 '03 (Updated Jun 30 '03)
Pros:Large, stretchy sides; Bear in the Big Blue House designs.
Cons:Feels just like a diaper; made of stiff and not cloth-like materials.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for an average "no frills" store brand disposable training pant, then these White Cloud Training Pants are an inexpensive choice.
Not long ago, my youngest son, Tristan, turned 3 years old and has only very recently used the potty for the very first time! So for awhile now, we've been experimenting with different brands of training pants for daily wear even though he still wears diapers overnight. Inside a package of the generic White Cloud Disposable Diapers we purchased at our local Wal-Mart was a "$2 off" coupon good toward the purchase of these White Cloud Training Pants. Since we've already spent a small fortune on diapers these last three years, I'm all for cutting corners where I can. We'd been using the Pampers Easy Ups for awhile and had no problems at all, but I've never been particularly brand loyal as far as diapers or training pants go. If I have a coupon and it's on sale, then I'm SO there!! Read on to find out more about this average yet recommended choice.
~~~The Training Pants~~~

Featuring colorful Bear in the Big Blue House (a popular preschool program that airs on The Disney Channel weekdays) designs in assorted patterns, these White Cloud Training Pants are apparently marketed toward each sex as the purple package we purchased stated For Big Boys as part of the product name (only I truly did not notice this until I got home so good thing I bought the right type!). The training pants are white in color and have large stretchy "tear away" sides that rip apart only when you want them too, which makes them much easier to pull on and off than other brands. Around the leg openings is an elastic liner to help hold any messy accidents inside (Dri Guard leak barriers that help stop leaks), and there is also a stretchy waistband that actually has the word "BACK" printed across the back so that you'll be sure not to place the training pants on backwards. Designed to feel like real underwear and to absorb day and night according to product advertising, these training pants claim to have a cloth-like cover as well, only it's quite stiff and not very soft in my opinion. The "super-dry" core absorbs just like a diaper, so potty training youngsters are still protected against leaks with these "big kid" underwear during the learning process. So when your child is ready to make that first big potty training step, these White Cloud Training Pants are inexpensive, easy to use, and offer the look of underwear while still providing the absorbency of a diaper.

~~~Price, Availability, & Sizes~~~
These White Cloud Training Pants are available for purchase at most Wal-Mart stores in varying sizes and both the Jumbo and Mega packaging counts. There are three sizes total, so finding the best fit for your child is simple: Medium fits toddlers up to 34 pounds in weight (2T to 3T), Large fits those weighing 32 to 40 pounds (3T to 4T), and Extra Large (4T to 5T) is for children 38 pounds and over. I bought the Mega package (containing 38 training pants) for around $11 (minus the "$2 off" coupon I had!) in size Large for 3 year old Tristan as he weighs around 35 pounds now, and they fit just as they should. Of course the larger size contains less training pants and the smaller size has more, just as disposable diapers do, as well. Comparable in price to diapers as well, these White Cloud Training Pants are a good choice for daily wear during the potty training process (diapers may still be the best choice for overnight use for heavy wetters though), especially if your child is a Bear in the Big Blue House fan. To be honest, this show really isn't one of Tristan's favorites, but he still likes the varying designs on these training pants nonetheless.
~~~Our Experience~~~

While I prefer the cute Sesame Street designs on the Pampers Easy Ups over those found on these White Cloud Disposable Training Pants, this store brand choice is quite economical, so we can live with Bear for now. The sizing is generous, which is a surprise as many generic brands run small, but the breathable cloth-like cover on these training pants aren't as soft as I expected it would be though. Only the large stretchy sides are MUCH better than the ones found on the Pampers Easy Ups, which have ripped on us more than once if Tristan's skin wasn't totally dry right after a bath when pulling them up. This does NOT happen with these White Cloud training pants, however, as the super stretchy sides are a good 4 inches long and rip apart only when you want them to as stated above. We've never had a problem with messy leaks although I don't quite trust them for overnight use just yet! If only these White Cloud Training Pants would magically potty train my son themselves, but unfortunately the whole process doesn't work that way!! So as long as Tristan is potty trained by the time he goes to kindergarten, I'll be happy :-)

~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
Give these White Cloud Training Pants a shot if you are looking for an inexpensive yet absorbent potty training aid as your child makes the transition from diapers to real "big kid" underwear. Although they are quite average in appearance and could be much softer, these training pants are still quite cute and those large stretchy sides just can't be beat! While we'd prefer another character besides Bear in the Big Blue House, it could be worse (like Barney on Luvs diapers....ugh!). When my budget is stretched to the limit, I'm thankful that lower priced generic brands such as this one are available, especially when I have coupons as well! Maybe soon we can finally move on to the cloth variety, but until then I would certainly purchase these White Cloud Training Pants again. Good luck and happy potty training :-)
