Pros: it keeps you reading
Cons: when you finish you feel like a bad person
This book combines every cliche horrible/bad thing that could ever happen to a girl coming of age and has it happen to her.
The book keeps you reading only because you can't believe that so much stuff that "sucks" could happen to the main character.
After reading it, not only did I feel like I wanted to adopt a foster child and give them a great life, but I felt like I should be very thankful for the conditions I live in.
This book is written well and thought out but it just delivers a sort of sad feeling to the reader that sticks with them for days after finishing it. I'm not sure if I learned anything or gained anything, I just thought how glad I was that I wasn't the main character. Perhaps if the author had supply the main character with more winnings or personal victories I would have been more satisfied with the story.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie, however, because I feel this book would do better on screen than as a book.
