I know what you are thinking
..eeeeeuuuuw, that cheap stuff!!! Ya darn tootin, its cheap! I found White Rain Extra Body Shampoo at my grocery store (HEB) and bought a large bonus 33% more (19.95 fl oz) bottle discounted to only 67 cents. And whats more? I bought the matching conditioner for the same amount!
Well, I was probably having a brain poot when I bought it. As you probably know, I am a hair product addict but I dont usually bother going this cheap, thinking price and quality usually go hand in hand. I have learned in the past that this is not always the case. Would this products results outdo its quality? This is the question. In fact, I was such a snob about it that I wouldnt use it. I put it in the back of the bathroom cabinet to save for the dogs bath or for extreme emergencies only. However, the extreme emergency came sooner than expected when I went on a week-end trip as a chaperone for my daughters kickball team. God forbid, I forgot to pack toothpaste and hair products. Panic struck, I checked my daughters overnight bag knowing that she had at least packed the Pantene. No such luck, my brain poot came back to haunt me. There was the half-used bottle of shampoo and conditioner I had bought for 67 cents a piece. Whats up, mom? You look like youve seen a ghost, piped my daughter. So ironic I had to laugh. My daughter had been using both the products for a couple of weeks now and assured me my hair would not fall out, laughing at my horror.
Ingredients:
Water, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Ammonium Chloride, Polyquaternium-7, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Panthenol (Provitam B5),PEG-150 Distearate, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Benzophenone-4, Blue 1, Red 38, Ext, Violet 2
Not very appealing. Lots of ammonium and methyls. It seems the only natural ingredient is water. However, look at what White Rain says about this water:
White Rain uses only the finest quality water in its shampoo, conditioners and body wash. Our water goes through a 5-step purification process to ensure the quality of our products.
STEP 1: Water runs through multimedia filters to remove suspended particles.
STEP 2: Water is softened to remove additional impurities.
STEP 3: Reverse Osmosis Filtration is a process used where water is run through filters once again to remove all chemical impurities.
STEP 4: Continuous Dionization then occurs to remove salts and charged ions to further purify water.
STEP 5: Lastly, UV lights and antimicrobial filters eliminate any additional bacteria.
We take steps to offer you the best quality products for your hair and body and you will see this by the symbol that is displayed on all our shampoo, conditioners and body wash!
So, maybe this makes up for no extracts or oils?
This product came in a clear, plastic, 19.95 fl oz bottle with a flip top cap. The shampoo is colorless even though the ingredients might indicate differently. It also has a pleasing scent which is fruity but subtle.
White Rains Claim:
Adds body to flat, fine and thin hair. This special formula helps improve hair texture, adds fullness and shine and is gentle enough to use every day.
My Experience:
The bottle has an enormous cap on it so it is easy to handle in the shower. The consistency was pretty thick but not creamy. It lathered up well and smelled good. It also rinsed out easily and left my hair feeling clean but slightly tangled before I used the conditioner. After drying, my hair was full of volume. So much so, that I could not really style it in the normal straight do I usually choose. However, it brought a lot of the curl out of my near grown-out perm and looked pretty okay. The shine was the most noticeable asset to me. I love shiny hair. It looks healthy.
In Conclusion:
This product claims that it adds body, fullness and shine to flat, fine and thin hair. It certainly did what it claims to do. I prefer a different shampoo for my do though, only because my do does not require volume. However, if volume and shine are what you are looking for, take it from this hair product snob, for 67 cents, you cannot beat this product. It performs just as well as more costly shampoos. It is all a matter of whether you like its ingredients or not. I am not particularly impressed even if the water is treated. I would buy this product again but because of its ingredients would probably only use it for back up. However it will receive 4 stars from me for fulfilling its claim.
