jiastar's Full Review: Gerina Dunwich - Wicca Craft: The Modern Witches B...
Let me say upfront that you will not find much new information in this title by Gerina Dunwich. There is nothing about it which makes it stand apart from other Wiccan texts. While it sits on my own bookshelf I do not recommend it to other Wiccans, novice or otherwise.
"Wicca Craft" is under 200 pages, and as such is a quick read giving a brief overview on a number of topics ranging from the basics of the religion of Wicca to spellwork to healing herbs. However much of the information seems to have been gleaned, if not taken directly, from other sources. There is little in this book that is unique other than the 8 seasonal rituals she includes and a collection of Pagan periodicals you can send for.
The parts of this book that I have the most trouble with are:
-- while she mentions herbs for specific health conditions - she gives no other data on the said herbs themselves. There is no word on dosaging, contraindication, etc. and while she admits to that I feel this chapter will lead to self-treatment.
--- some of her correspondence charts seem suspiciously similar to charts in works by Scott Cunningham
In short I found Wicca Craft to be akin to a term paper on Wicca instead of a Witch's personal view of The Craft. However, in can act as a handy "quick reference guide" for an experienced Witch. But, again, I would not recommend this for a novice.
Note: while there are a few recipes included, this is NOT a cookbook of any sort.
Wicca Craft traces the origins of this positive, nature-based religion, which preaches brotherly love and harmony with and respect for all life forms-...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
